To say it has been a strange few months would be an understatement. Like most, our routines changed - we were working remotely from home and not seeing friends and family- many of the things taken for granted in our daily lives.
As employment lawyers we are very cognizant of the difficulties that COVID-19 is posing for both employers and employees.
Things are slowly starting to open up again and we are back at our offices - socially distanced of course! We have presented a number of webinars on how to navigate the new post-pandemic landscape and would be happy to help your organization get employees back to work.
We are here to provide you with the advice you need.
Our Work Family is Growing!
Congratulations to our law clerk, Jessica, and her family on the arrival of their new baby girl in May. We can hardly wait to meet her when it is safe to do so!

Breaking News- Time to Review Your Employment Agreements!
The Ontario Court of Appeal has very recently issued a landmark decision finding that an invalid ‘with cause’ provision in an employment agreement will invalidate an otherwise valid ‘without cause’ termination provision.
With the help of legal counsel, employment agreements should be reviewed and revised so as to ensure employee entitlements upon termination are limited to those under the Employment Standards Act, and not determined by the common law (i.e. potentially one week of notice or pay in lieu thereof for every year of service vs. one month of notice or pay in lieu thereof for every year of service).
