Inspired by the Jewish idea of the Lamed Vavniks, and in honor of TVT’s 36th year, we are recognizing 36 members of the TVT community whose generosity, spirit, and quiet acts of care help sustain our school.

Some of the people who sustain TVT ask for nothing in return, including recognition. Today, we honor those who have chosen to remain anonymous and all who contribute quietly to our school.

Their generosity has deep roots in Jewish tradition. In his teachings on tzedakah, Maimonides gives special honor to giving in which the donor and recipient do not know one another’s identities. This protects the dignity of the person receiving support and keeps the act of giving centered on its purpose.

Tzedakah shares its root with tzedek, meaning justice. It calls us to consider our responsibility to one another and how we can help others flourish. Giving anonymously puts that responsibility into practice without asking that the giver’s name become part of the story.

At TVT, the impact of such gifts is felt even when their source is unknown. A student may never know who helped make their education possible. A family may never meet the person whose generosity opened a door for them. Yet the opportunity to learn, belong, and grow becomes part of their lives.

For a Jewish school, that generosity also reaches across generations. The learning made possible today becomes part of what students know, what they value, and what they will someday pass on. As they benefit from the care of a community, they also learn what it means to care for others.

To all who give quietly: we honor your privacy, and we thank you. Your names may remain unknown, but your contributions are woven into the life of TVT.

As we continue sharing these stories, many of our Lamed Vavniks will also represent the countless others who contribute to TVT in similar ways. Through these individuals, we celebrate the many forms of generosity, service, leadership, and care that sustain our school.

A gift to the TVT Fund continues that work, helping us fulfill our shared responsibility for the children learning here today and the Jewish future they will help shape.
