Greetings Valued Chamber Members,
As we continue in 2018, the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce diligently strives to serve our membership with numerous events to attend.
As always, we will be having our membership luncheon in April. Our speaker will be Mayor R. Rex Parris, and he will provide attendees a State of the City Address for Lancaster. This will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at 11:30 AM at the Hellenic Center in Lancaster. You can RSVP and purchase your tickets online at
We will be holding elections for our Board of Directors in April/May and our annual Installation of the new Directors and Officers in mid June. Please be on the lookout for your ballot for our election.
YEA (Young Entrepreneurs Academy) has provided an opportunity for our local youth to grow in their business knowledge. They have successfully started their own businesses and want to share this with you! The YEA students will give a panel presentation on their business and share their business plans with our investors panel. This is a great opportunity to hear their pitches and to learn more about the YEA program. Panel presentations will be on Tuesday, April 17th in the AVC board room (SSV-151) beginning at 4:30 pm with a meet and greet.
If you have not joined us for B-4-B you are missing a great way to network with your fellow Chamber members. Please join us for breakfast on Thursday, April 26th at 7:00 AM at the A.M. Café. Each member will provide a 30 second pitch on their business.
Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Monica Grado
Chairwoman of the Board

Wilk honors Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Member Ruwanthi Campano, M.D.
as Small Business of the Month
Sacramento - Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley, honored Dr. Ruwanthi Campano as the 21st Senate District's Small Business of the Month. Friends, family, patients, and the local business community were on-hand for the award presentation.
"Dr. Campano finished medical school with an amazing resume of accomplishments. The world was literally her oyster yet she chose to call the Antelope Valley home," said Wilk. "Her commitment to this region is real. It goes beyond serving her patients; it includes involvement in community service organizations that help the homeless, our local schools and business community."
"So much of what happens in Sacramento is about big businesses and big government. Small businesses, like Dr. Campano's practice, however are the real economic drivers of our state. 99.45% of businesses in CA are small businesses," concluded Wilk. "Being local, Ruwanthi is easily accessible to her patients and, like so many small business owners, makes it a point to participate in local charities and business groups to improve the community as a whole.

Employees are Chamber Members
For this month, I would like to promote the idea to the decision-makers to motivate their staff to take advantage of the benefits included in Chamber membership. Success in business takes many talents. If you have a staff, then training will play a key component. Having a well trained staff directly reflects on management and ownership, showing that you care. Often seen as the face of your business, attentive, friendly, up-sell able, problem solving employees are and can be the reason your customers return.
Hopefully, over and above training, you are mentoring your employees. Someone you can delegate more responsibility and lighten your load all while adding more skills to their professional toolbox. Mentoring is a true gift you can give your employee and rewarding for you too.
If we all want to grow our business, we also need to grow our employees! Have them go to a luncheon to learn how to network and build professional relationships. Or take them to our Business-4- Breakfast and help them polish their public speaking skills, or work on an elevator pitch.
If your staff includes millennials, have them join our Young Professionals Network. This group enjoys having fun while improving their soft skills. Their last event they visited Twisted Exit Escape Room and had a great time while developing their leadership and problem solving skills.
Your Lancaster Chamber of Commerce membership is more than a ribbon cutting, we're building a hub for business, a place to encourage, promote and educate local business. I encourage you (and your staff) to be a part of it.
Mark Hemstreet, CEO
Lancaster Chamber of Commerce
