February is Black History Month
Honoring African American Educators and Advocates
In celebration of Black History Month, we honor Selena Sloan Butler, founder of the National Congress of Colored Parents and
Teachers (NCCPT) who advocated for children, especially African American children, in segregated communities. After working side-by-side through the Civil Rights movement, National PTA andNCCPT signed a Declaration of Unity and merged in 1970. Learn more about Selena, the Unification, and the history of National PTA.
