Dear Lancer Families,
I want to share some important updates on what we have been working on as a whole school staff. On October 25, our staff members engaged in a variety of professional learning sessions under the umbrella of increasing rigor in our classes and engagement among our students. Teachers and other staff members engaged in critical reading, inquiry, technology, and oracy sessions geared towards providing scaffolds for students while upping the complexity of tasks. One of the top strategies in our School Improvement Plan is to prioritize our content teaming structures, so departments also spent a good portion of the day collaborating around student assessments and building engagement and community within classrooms.
All of these practices align with our beliefs, values, and goals as educators at La Follette High School. Our dedicated staff will continue to work hard together throughout the year to continue to support the learning and growth of each and every Lancer student.

LHS College and Career Readiness Update
|
Sept. and Oct. have been busy months for college and career readiness. The week of Sept. 30- Oct. 4th we had the privilege of working with our Seniors in their english classes on their post high school plans. Some of our students completed college applications, while others met with Military reps and the Dane County Career Center. The week was very students driven and allowed them to select tasks to complete that met their own personal goal after high school. During the week we were able to identify that currently 86.4% of our Seniors plan to attend a college or university upon graduation. We also celebrated that 85.1% of our Seniors completed at least one college application during their work time!
Once we completed our work with the Class of 2020, we shifted our focus on the Class of 2023. Our Freshman all received a lesson on graduation requirements, transcripts, and how to use Infinite Campus to stay on top of their academic success. During this lesson in their social studies class, all of our freshman also had a chance to meet their counselors and get added to the Class of 2023 google classroom. This classroom is where our college and career readiness team and counseling team add essential information pertaining to supports and events around success in high school and beyond. Feel free to take a peek at these resources with your student.
COMING SOON… we will officially open our doors to the LHS College and Career center the week of Nov. 19th and invite all of you to check it out during parent teacher conferences. The center will be a place for students to further their classroom work around college and career readiness. We are excited to open the first one in the district here at LHS!
If you have any questions on our efforts in supporting all Lancers in success beyond high school, please reach out to me via email at
mmswanson@madison.k12.wi.us
or phone (608)204-3602
Thank you,
