Dear Lancer Families,
Clubs
Clubs are a HUGE part of life a La Follette and many of our clubs are continuing virtually.
To see a list of all of our clubs just click here and then click on the hyperlink that says La Follette Clubs. Google Classroom and Zoom Links are currently being added for clubs that are up and running virtually.
Virtual Mentoring
Every student at La Follette High School has a Virtual Mentor. This person is a staff member, who often doubles as the student’s teacher, who is a guide, helper, and trusted adult in what can be a way-too-impersonal virtual world. We want virtual mentors to impart the human aspect to students in this time when this has become more difficult. Ask your student who their Virtual Mentor is and see if they can tell you!

La Follette College and Career Center Updates
|
|
Happy Fall LHS Families! Fall is an exciting time for our students pertaining to college and career planning. Our Seniors just completed their first week of one of our Future Planning Event. We know the tasks completed this week are just to start, so we look forward to continuing to support the Class of 2021 as they continue to plan and prepare for their future.
We are looking forward to connecting with our Freshman class in their US History classroom to discuss some high school tips and tricks to assist in their success. This will be happening right after progress reports come out, so we plan to use that information to assist in understanding grading and IC tips.
Our college and career center has started off strong with the first few visits from college recruiters. It is great to get up to date information, especially around COVID and the application process. We would love all students to take advantage of these opportunities.
LHS College and Career Center is planning to be open for students/families every Wednesday from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. (Click here for LHS C/C Center- zoom link)
These virtual center hours will include…
Individual students supports on college and career task (EX: College applications, resumes, job applications and more)
Student driven workshops- dependent on student needs (EX: FAFSA, Common App, UW System App, college essay support, organization tips, and more)
If your student would like to request a specific college or career recruiter please advise them to fill out this request form.
Along with our center hours, LHS academic and career planning will be in full swing during virtual learning. Check out this slide to preview each grade level support and goal for Q1 this fall.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us!

Dear Lancer Families,
We’re happy to report that the Pathway teams at La Follette are approaching online learning with creativity and collaboration! This year we have six Pathway cohorts: Health Services at all four grade levels, and Information Technology and Communication in 9th and 10th. One of the things that stands out to teachers in the first days of classes is that the Pathway students are more likely to turn their cameras on and actively participate during Zoom calls--and students tell us this is because they have built strong connections to their pathway peers.
La Follette’s pathways are also maintaining strong connections to community partners and building creative ways to connect learning to “real life.” The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness welcomed pathway students to their online Black Women’s Wellness Day conference in September. We will also have students virtually attending the Wisconsin Leadership Summit this week,
As our community stays connected during 2020, we can see that both pathway themes are powerful and relevant. We certainly need strong leadership for community health and wellness, and we are excited to be empowering students to raise their voices and use information technology to share their ideas. We’d love to hear from you with suggestions or questions!
Sincerely,
Chrissy Mitlyng and Kris Howard
La Follette Pathway Coordinators

Achievement Connections-Virtual Student Report
|
|
Achievement Connections is a math tutoring program that focuses on working with students in Algebra 1 and Geometry. In recent years, we work with students 1:1 solely on math while also offering mentoring and student support. In our unique school year, Achievement Connections is still here to help our Lancer students, at any grade level, in MOST classes. Our focus will still be Algebra 1 and Geometry but we will also be offering occasional non-math tutoring to our students.
Typically our program is for students without other support systems or programs.
We are also offering additional non-academic support. We will be working with students who may be dealing with other obstacles and helping them find other resources within La Follette, such as social workers, school psychologists, and counselors.
We want our students to know that we are here for them and they have a large community of staff that care about them. If you know a student that can benefit from any of the above mentioned support, please contact Jack Jackson, Tutor Coordinator, at jjackson@madison.k12.wi.us.

Chromebook Troubleshooting Tips
|
|
MANY Chromebook problems can be solved by turning the Chromebook completely OFF, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning it back on. Closing the lid doesn’t turn it off. Hold down on the power button or shut down using the bottom right corner to access the on screen power button.
