Landes Community Center Improvements

The John Landes Community Center in Oceanside's Tri City neighborhood has been reactivated with renovations, new services and programs, the addition of a Library, and new skate area elements will be coming soon to the park.

After the expiration of a lease agreement with Mira Costa College last year, and with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, the John Landes Community Center facility received fresh paint throughout the building, new flooring in select rooms, a Library area, computers for community use, upgraded restroom fixtures, and new fencing and lighting. Additional facility improvements included a shade structure in the patio areas and an upgrade to the patio play area.

The first programming reactivated at the facility was Parks and Recreation’s "Sunsational Summer Camp" program. Additional activities added is an after school program, recreational programs such as dance and tumbling, and adult programs like Aikido and Aerobics. The Landes Community Center is located at 2855 Cedar Road and is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Learn more below!

Community Center Staff Assist with Resources

The City's Housing & Neighborhood Services Department staff work at the Center to assist residents and provide resources, referrals, and services that address mental health, social services, and overall well-being. They can help with needs such as food distributions, medical and transportation assistance, job training opportunities, and community events.

New Landes Community Center Library Opened

The Oceanside Public Library completed a Community Engagement Project to better assess the needs of the neighborhood surrounding Landes Community Center. As a result, staff has opened a Library inside the Landes Community Center. The Library offers books for all ages, study rooms, computer access, online resources, free family programs and more. Stop by and say hello to the friendly staff members!

Landes Park Skate Area Improvements Coming

New skateboarding elements will be added at John Landes Park. As part of the design process, there were two community meetings, a webpage, and a survey created to help gather community throughout the design. Take the survey!

John Landes Park Features and Name

Amenities include a barbeque and picnic area, baseball fields, basketball courts, drinking fountain, multi-purpose field, play equipment, restrooms, softball fields, tennis courts, a skateboarding area, and free parking. The land for the park's development was purchased nearly 60 years ago in 1964.

He was a pioneer Oceanside resident who served as Oceanside City Clerk for 32 years, and never stopped contributing throughout his lifetime. Landes Park was named for him at a 1967 dedication ceremony. Mr. Landes lived for many years on the corner of Clementine and Missouri Streets until his death in 1970.
