Good evening HACC Landlords,

We hope this message finds you well. The Housing Authority of Champaign County remains committed to creating quality living environments as a foundation for individuals to achieve their full potential. Due to increasing concerns surrounding the possible spread of COVID-19 both globally and domestically, we believe it is in the best interest of the vulnerable populations we serve to temporarily close our offices to the public until further notice. HACC has not been notified of any suspected or confirmed cases in the Champaign County community and the measures we are taking are preventative.

Effective immediately, the Housing Authority of Champaign County has implemented a moratorium on lease enforcements for all non-violent and non-criminal activity related evictions for properties owned or managed by the authority. The moratorium is effective until further notice. It is intended to prevent homelessness during this potential crisis. In addition to properties owned and managed by our agency, HACC will not process any terminations of voucher assistance for individuals on the Housing Choice Voucher program.

During this period, rent owed to the authority and any other lawful charges will continue to accrue. Such amounts, if not addressed, may be subject to legal action when normal lease enforcement resumes.

HACC cannot prevent evictions filed by private landlords on the Housing Choice Voucher program. We encourage owners to extend grace periods to their tenants during this potential crisis.

Best regards,

David A. Northern, Sr.
