I-495 North

Monday, January 8, through Thursday, January 11, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Single right lane closure on northbound I-495 between Lewinsville Road and George Washington Memorial Parkway for drainage, excavation, sound wall and embankment work.

Monday, January 8, through Friday, January 12, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Alternating single mobile lane closures on northbound I-495 throughout the project corridor as needed for maintenance work and traffic management.

Monday, January 8, through Friday, January 12, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Single right lane closures on northbound I-495 from Old Dominion Drive to George Washington Memorial Parkway as needed for hauling and embankment work.

Single right lane closure on southbound I-495 between Georgetown Pike and Dulles Toll Road for drainage, sound wall, embankment, and excavation work.

LIVE OAK DRIVE

Monday, January 8, through Friday, January 12, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Live Oak Drive will be reduced to a single lane near the swim club and bridge for waterline work. Flagging operations alternating single traffic lanes will be in effect.

BALLS HILL ROAD

Monday, January 8, through Friday, January 12, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Balls Hill Road will be reduced to a single lane near the Live Oak Drive intersection for waterline work. Flagging operations alternating single traffic lanes will be in effect.

GEORGETOWN PIKE INTERCHANGE

Monday, January 8, through Thursday, January 11, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Single left lane closure on the exit ramp from southbound I-495 to Georgetown Pike for materials delivery.

DULLES CORRIDOR INTERCHANGE

Dulles Toll Road

Single right lane closure on westbound Dulles Toll Road (267 Connector) from Route 123 to the I-495 interchange for conduit and foundation work.

Dulles Access Road

Monday, January 8, through Thursday, January 11, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Single right lane closure on eastbound Dulles Access Road from Route 7 to the I-495 interchange for conduit and foundation work.

Traffic Changes

New Exit Ramp for I-495 North Exit to Dulles Toll Road

Reminder: Motorists traveling on northbound I-495 heading for westbound Dulles Toll Road must take a new, earlier exit. The new exit ramp is located about one-third of a mile ahead of the old, closed Exit 45. To facilitate this new traffic pattern, I-495 has been reduced from four to three lanes for approximately one-half mile near the Dulles Corridor interchange.

George Washington Memorial Parkway West at I-495

Reminder: The ramp from westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway to southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) was reduced from two lanes to one lane to make room for a construction vehicle haul route that will be separated from traffic by a physical barrier. This traffic change will be in effect throughout construction on the 495 NEXT project.

Project Background

The I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project will extend the existing 495 Express Lanes north by two-and-a-half miles from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway interchange in the vicinity of the American Legion Bridge. The project will provide new and improved connections at the Dulles Corridor and George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Other project benefits include four miles of new bicycle and pedestrian connections including a shared-use path parallel to I-495 from Lewinsville Road to near Live Oak Drive, replacement or rehabilitation of seven bridges with pedestrian accommodations, replacement of nine existing noise walls and construction of a new noise wall, environmental improvements introducing stormwater management facilities and funding of restoration at Scotts Run stream, and dedicated funding to support transit improvements in the corridor including new bus service over the American Legion Bridge.

495 NEXT is a public-private partnership project between the Commonwealth of Virginia and Transurban, operator of the existing 495 Express Lanes. Lane Construction is the design-build contractor for the project. The new extended lanes are scheduled to open in 2025.
