Northbound and Southbound I-495 Traffic Shifted to New Beltway Alignment
Reminder: Traffic on all four general-purpose lanes of northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) was shifted onto newly constructed outer lanes between just south of Old Dominion Drive and the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Traffic on all four general-purpose lanes of southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) between just north of George Washington Memorial Parkway to just south of Georgetown Pike was shifted onto newly constructed outer lanes. These shifts enable crews to begin construction of the new express lanes in the center of the Beltway.
Following the first southbound I-495 traffic shift, drivers must now use two separate exits from southbound I-495 to access Exit 43 for GWMP and Exit 44 for Georgetown Pike. Instead of using the collector-distributor road that began just south of the American Legion Bridge, motorists now have two unique exit points directly from southbound I-495 for GWMP and Georgetown Pike.
Lanes on southbound I-495 between just south of Georgetown Pike to north of the Dulles Corridor Interchange near Old Dominion Drive are planned to shift in mid-July.

New Ramp Alignment for Traffic Exiting George Washington Memorial Parkway to Southbound I-495 and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) and Southbound I-495 Traffic Exiting at Georgetown Pike (Exit 44)
Reminder: Traffic was shifted to a new ramp alignment located on the outer edge of the Beltway that runs parallel to southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) between George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) and Georgetown Pike. Drivers exiting northwest GWMP to southbound I-495 now stay in the right lane of the ramp and merge onto I-495 just south of the Georgetown Pike Bridge and motorists heading to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) now remain in the left lanes of the ramp to reach the exit. Southbound I-495 Exit 44 collector road traffic now enters the new ramp alignment just after Exit 43 for GWMP and exit left to access Georgetown Pike (Exit 44).
Drivers should pay close attention to signage and lane markings, and use caution while getting acclimated to these new traffic patterns.
