New Ramp Alignment for Traffic Exiting George Washington Memorial Parkway to Southbound I-495 and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44)
Beginning Friday morning, April 18: Drivers exiting northwest George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) will use a new, dedicated ramp alignment located on the outer edge of the Beltway which runs parallel to southbound I-495 between GWMP and Georgetown Pike. GWMP drivers continuing to southbound I-495 will stay in the right lane of the ramp and merge onto I-495 just south of the Georgetown Pike Bridge. Motorists heading to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) will remain in the left lanes of the ramp to reach the exit.
Looking ahead, an additional traffic shift in this area is scheduled for one night next week. Southbound I-495 traffic traveling on the Exit 43-44 collector-distributor lanes will be shifted to the right onto the newly aligned ramp. Motorists will need to exit left to access Georgetown Pike or exit right to access southbound I-495 – the opposite of the current movements.
Drivers should pay close attention to signage and lane markings, and use caution while getting acclimated to these new traffic patterns.
