FAIRFAX, VA – A single lane will be closed in both directions on I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer and Inner Loops) in the Tysons-McLean area between the Dulles Corridor Interchange and American Legion Memorial Bridge this Saturday, Nov. 15 and Sunday, Nov. 16, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Also on Saturday, Nov. 15, a single left lane will be closed on westbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) between Route 123 and the I-495 interchange between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. These extended daytime closures are needed for crews to complete paving and pavement marking activities, install flexible delineator posts, and finish other necessary work before the new express lanes open.
Additionally, multi-lane closures in the north- and southbound directions on I-495, and ramp closures with detours will continue nightly through November. Details of these nightly closures are:
- Single lane closures will begin at 9 p.m., with up to three lanes closed by 10 p.m. each night.
- Ramp closures will begin as early as 9 p.m. and continue until 5 a.m. the following morning. These closures will be staggered and reopened as work is completed.
- All lanes will be reopened by 5 a.m. on weekday mornings.
- On Saturday and Sunday mornings, Nov.15 and 16, two lanes will be reopened by 6 a.m., with a single lane closure remaining in place on through 9 p.m.
In addition to paving work, crews will be installing lane markings and flex-posts separating the express lanes from the general-purpose lanes, and finishing other necessary work before the new express lanes open on Saturday, Nov. 22. All work is weather dependent.
To avoid potential backups and delays, drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes. If travel through the area is necessary, motorists should plan extra time and expect delays.
