Langdon Qualifies for North Port
City Commission Run
The candidate will fight to bring jobs and other opportunities to North Port while keeping taxes in check.
North Port, June 9, 2020 - Barbara Langdon, the emerging leader who has provided the vision for the community activist group North Port Forward, has qualified as a candidate for North Port’s District 2 commission seat.

She will be on the ballot for the Aug. 18 primary.

“It’s nice to complete the first leg,” Langdon said of qualifying in her first run for elected office. “I want to thank all my supporters. But now the real work begins. It’s time to get North Port moving forward again.” If elected, Langdon promises to fight for the residents of North Port and work hard to bring opportunities to the city.

“This is a city with so much untapped potential,” she said. “I’m concerned that North Port has invested too heavily in projects that add costs to the city budget and has not invested enough in projects that generate a positive revenue flow for the city. The result? Tax increases! We are one of the fastest growing cities in Florida. But the truth is, growth is something that is happening to us rather than because of us. We need to guide our progress with a comprehensive plan detailing how to achieve that vision.”

She has the work ethic to make it happen. Langdon grew up in a Boston blue-collar neighborhood, the daughter of a firefighter. Nothing, she said, was handed to her.
“I had to work -- and work hard -- for everything I got,” she recalled. “It took planning, determination and perseverance to earn three advanced degrees, including a Masters in City Planning from Boston University. There were a lot of opportunities available to folks willing to work hard to accomplish their goals. That’s what I’ll bring to North Port – opportunities for careers, jobs, safety and recreation.”

Langdon, a retired executive with an extensive background in marketing, has been active in the North Port community since moving here with her husband, Tom, from New Hampshire in 2014. She has served on the board of directors on the North Port Economic Development Corp.; is a member of the North Port Community Economic Development Advisory Board; serves as Communications Chair for the North Port Republican Club; is an educator and coach for Goodwill’s Microenterprise Program; and served as a mentor for SCORE Manasota.

The general election is Nov. 3.
