On September 11, Xi chaired a symposium of scientists in Beijing to gather opinions on China's scientific and technological development for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).

In his speech, 在科学家座谈会上的讲话, Xi stressed the importance of continuing to advance the development of science and technology to a deeper level.

In the past three months, Xi has hosted three symposiums in Beijing (for entrepreneurs, economists and sociologists, and scientists). The common theme of these symposiums: how to prepare for the 14th Five-Year Plan.

Source: On September 8, Xi Jinping presided over a ceremony to honor the national resistance against the Covid-19 pandemic in the Great Hall of the People. During the ceremony, Xi gave a speech in which he praised the “伟大抗疫精神” of China's pandemic response.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships
Applications for the 2021/2022 Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are now open.

Since 1990, the Blakemore Foundation has awarded over $20 million in grants to graduating seniors, college graduates, graduate students and young/mid-career professionals to fund an academic year of advanced language study in East and Southeast Asia.

Superior candidates pursuing careers which will involve the regular use of an East or Southeast Asian language, in fields such as academia, STEM, international business, accounting, law, medicine, journalism, architecture, teaching, social and NGO work, and government service, are encouraged to apply.

For Chinese, the fellowship funds study at the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, or the International Chinese Language Program at National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. The Blakemore Foundation does not award fellowships for any other Chinese language program.

The application deadline is 12/30/2020.
