SPRING 2022
Dear LHA Community,

It's hard to believe that we're already well into 2022. Spring means a lot of things in California. In Southern California, it means we've likely seen our last rain for the next 6 months. Spring also means it's time to plant your vegetable garden and check the filter on your HVAC unit and make sure it's ready for the coming heat. Gas prices are going to go up AGAIN thanks to the change to the "summer mix." And in Sacramento, spring means politicians are working overtime getting bills introduced and budget requests presented before the close of the session.

One of the goals of Lanterman Housing Alliance has been and continues to be finding additional funding for the creation of housing for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This newsletter, we looked for highlights of organizations we're affiliated with that have been able to find such funding and get units underway. We'd also like to draw your attention to legislation that would set aside additional funds that could provide housing for some of the most vulnerable members of the population we all serve, those who are homeless or at serious risk of becoming so. We'd also like you to consider joining with us as we pledge to make our organizations inclusive environments that reflect the diversity of the communities we live in and serve.

We hope you'll take a few minutes to read the stories below and then join us on a future call or get involved in one of our committees.

New Affordable Housing In The City Of Coachella

The project was awarded funding from the California Strategic Growth Council’s Affordability Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program and the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Infill Infrastructure Grant (IIG) program, the Housing Authority of the County of Riverside’s project-based vouchers and HOME programs, and the California Department of Developmental Services’ Community Placement Plan (CPP) program through the Inland Regional Center. Portions of the AHSC award included grants to the City of Coachella, Sunline Transit Agency, and Chelsea Investment Corporation.

Legislative Advocacy Opportunity

The State Council on Developmental Disabilities is Co-sponsoring AB-2547  Housing Stabilization to Prevent and End Homelessness Among Older Adults and People with Disabilities Act.

The Legislative Advocacy Committee is asking you to review and see if your organization would like to support this legislation. We are hoping that by reaching out as organizations who work to provide housing for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities we can ensure that this population is not overlooked in this broad coalition looking for additional housing resources.

Sunnyvale Affordable Housing Project Breaks Ground

On Wednesday, March 23, a group of public and private partners gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of Sunnyvale Block 15, a much-needed affordable housing development that will serve Sunnyvale’s low-income families and households with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Planning for the development began in 2016 when the City of Sunnyvale selected the development team of Related California, Affordable Housing Access, Housing Choices Coalition, and Steinberg Hart to redevelop Block 15, located within the Downtown Specific Plan Area.
