Happy New Year!! I hope you were able to spend time relaxing with friends and families over the holidays! It seems like December, as well as 2019, flew by. As we move into the new year, I am so thankful to be part of the Lapham community.
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Holiday Luncheon. I continue to be inspired by this event and look forward to the 2020 celebration. I am so appreciative of our many guest servers from across MMSD and the city of Madison. Without their help, we would not be able to have this event.
The start of the new year is a new beginning and an opportunity to renew our commitment to educating every student, every day! January is a busy month as we review our behavioral expectations with students. Students will be taking mid year assessments as we continue to use data to ensure we are doing our best for our students. We will continue to create strong learning partnerships with students.
Just some reminders for the new year:
Students are to be dropped off at 7:35 am. School begins at 7:45 am. Students arriving after 7:50 must report to the office for a late pass. I am hoping that we can work together to reduce student late arrivals. Teachers begin their day with breakfast, as well as morning circles to create class community. If students are late, they miss this important time with their classmates.
Please remember that all visitors to the building should report to the main office to sign in and get a visitor badge.. This is not to hinder parent participation in our school, but to ensure the safety of our students and staff throughout the building. Maintaining safety is a collaborative effort and we appreciate your support in this important matter.
Please make sure that coats, boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens/gloves are sent with your child each day. Going outside is an important part of the school day and we want to make sure students are warm and comfortable. I encourage all families to label their clothing. We have an ever growing “Lost and Found” section, and labeling of clothing would help a great deal in returning items to the proper child.
I would like to wish all of our families a happy and healthy 2020!!
Cathy

It’s important to find a way to get your child to school even when the weather is bad. If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, give the school social worker a call, we can connect you with staff members who can help problem solve.

A Special thank you
to those who took time out of their day to serve our families at the 30 annual Holiday Bruncheon. We were served by members of the Madison Police Department, the Madison Fire Department, Badger bus drivers, MMSD central office staff, Blackhawk Church members and our friends at the Road Home. We appreciate you all, thank you!

From the Art Room
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I hope your child's artwork arrived home safely! HUGE thanks to Willy Street Co-Op for donating all the bags to make our portfolios!
We have been very busy in the Lapham art room. We're learning about primary and complementary colors, practicing our cutting and gluing skills and painting up a storm! Currently, we are working on a "top secret" project that will be unveiled at Fine Arts Night, Thursday, January 23rd! Hope to see everyone there!

COLDER WEATHER
As we begin to transition to colder weather, there are a few reminders we want to be sure everyoneis aware of:
- All students will be outside for recess during the day if the temperature is within district guidelines. When temperatures reach below zero is when we have indoor recess
- Doors to enter school in the morning will open at 7:35 a.m.
- Please make sure that your child has warm clothing and if you need assistance with that, let us know so we can help
