This is the next installment of Larchmont's monthly Public Safety Newsletter! Every month, pertinent information from the Larchmont Police and Fire Departments will be curated for the residents of our amazing village. Safety tips, events, and other highlights will be displayed. LPD Medal Day 2023

On May 25^th at a ceremony at Village Hall several officers were awarded commendations for various acts of service in which they went above and beyond in service to the community. We congratulate these officers on a job well done.

The LPD would like to remind residents that the lot located at CVS 21 Chatsworth Avenue is 30 minute parking. 

• Residents and visitors are reminded that most commercial district streets have time-limited, meter parking. Payment can be made at sidewalk Pay Stations or via the Passport Mobile parking app. If anyone has any issues with Pay Stations or the parking app they should contact the village and report it by calling 914-834-6230 during business hours or 914-834-1000 after hours.

Retirement of Chief John Caparelli

Chief Caparelli was appointed to the position of Firefighter for the Village of Larchmont on March 21st 1994. Since then he has held the positions of Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief of Department. He has served on many committees throughout his tenure with both the village and outside organizations. He not only responded to but volunteered 126 hours of search and rescue work in relation to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He has commanded over numerous multi-alarm fires and severe weather related emergencies. He was successful in obtaining nearly 1 million dollars in grant related funding for the Larchmont Fire Department and obtaining an ISO class rating of 2 for the Village of Larchmont. Chief Caparelli retired on May 31st, 2023, and we thank him for his decades of dedication, professionalism, and experience he brought with him every day. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and have a safe and happy retirement!

Promotion of Chief Richard Valentine

Chief Richard Valentine was appointed to the position of Firefighter for the Village of Larchmont on March 31st, 2013 and graduated from the Utica Fire Academy later that year. He Graduated Oneonta State in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science and Marist College with a Master of Public Administration in 2015. Rich brought with him a long list of credentials which he immediately put to use here in the Village of Larchmont serving the residents with professionalism and care. He scored #1 on the promotional written exam for Fire Chief for the Village of Larchmont. He has demonstrated superior leadership qualities, commands the respect of his peers, has excellent communication skills and has developed a great number of relationships around the County with other firefighters and officers. He has served with distinction receiving numerous Life Saving and Unit Citation awards. We look forward to welcoming Chief Valentine in his new position of Chief of Department for the Village of Larchmont Fire Department!

Hurricane Safety Tips

June marks the start of Hurricane Season. Here are some very important safety tips:

Before a Hurricane

• Build an emergency kit or a “go bag” and make a family communications plan
• Have enough food and water for three days
• Make arrangements for your pets if needed. Keep a phone list of pet-friendly hotels/motels and animal shelters that are along your evacuation routes. Remember, if it’s not safe for you to stay home, it’s not safe for your pets either.
• Secure your house (bring in anything that might get blown away, etc.)
• Keep your gas tank at least half full at all times
• Learn community evacuation routes in case you are told to leave

During a Hurricane

• Follow guidance from local authorities
• If not ordered to evacuate – take refuge in a small, interior room, closet or hallway
• Move to higher ground if there is a flood warning
• Stay away from windows, skylights or glass doors

After a Hurricane

• If you are evacuated, return home only if officials say it is safe
• Keep away from dangling power lines and immediately report them to the power company
• Drive only if necessary and avoid flooded roads and washed out bridges
• Never use a generator inside homes, crawlspaces or sheds
