Message from the Principal
The 2020-21 School Year is in the books! In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Foundation Schools began the school year providing a 100 percent distance learning program. By March 2021, we were finally able to welcome nearly half of our students back into the building for a hybrid program!
|
|
Our goal remained the same: to provide educational services that keeps students engaged in the learning process through the combination of in-person, face-to-face virtual instruction, and additional staff supported independent coursework. We worked hard with our students and their families to ensure that each child’s experience was positive and full of learning opportunities.

|
We were thrilled to see our students’ faces and receive their hugs and high fives when they stepped back into our building. Just look at the smiles from our students during our lesson on telling time!

#FinishStrong Challenge
For the last quarter of the school year, students were encouraged to “finish strong” by participating in a principal sponsored incentive plan. Students who maintained an 85 percent attendance rate, passed all of their classes, and were promoted to the next grade received a $25 gift card when they sent a picture of themselves working hard to the principal! Students proudly showed off their end of the school year accomplishments!

8th Grade Promotion Celebration
This year we celebrated our 8th graders by holding a “beep, honk, and wave” drive through promotion parade. Eighth grade students and their families were assigned times to drive through our staff-lined parade route to receive their promotion certificates, gifts, and very special portraits hand-drawn by one of our eighth grade teachers. These special gifts will be treasured for years to come!

Peace Out!
Our first and second graders also celebrated their promotion to the next grade. Second grade students participated in an end-of-year celebration of their accomplishments that included t-shirts designed by students saying “Peace Out 2nd Grade!” Meanwhile, our first graders received special gift bags with summer reading materials, snacks, and fun activities to keep them learning over the summer.

Staff Appreciation Week
The Foundation School celebrated Staff Appreciation Week May 24 - May 28. All of our staff, teachers, program assistants, dedicated aides, related service providers, office staff, and building service workers were recognized for making important contributions to our school. Students and parents also helped us celebrate by having their child either bring flowers to commemorate their teacher’s desire to “help them grow” or write a special note thanking them for what they do. Our staff truly appreciated the kindness!

Recognizing Our Parents
Thanks to a donation from a local Girl Scout Troop, we sent “Cookie Grams” to our parents this spring. The cookie gram included cookies and a gift card that said “No matter how the cookie crumbles you are the best parent around!” One parent responded by saying “I want to thank you for the certificate, gift card, and cookies. It has been a pleasure working with you all throughout these years. I tried on my end to make situations a little easy for you because I know you made it easy for me. FYI, thin mints are my favorite Girl Scout cookies! I have loved them since I was a Girl Scout.”

We recognized 20 parents for their support throughout the school year by delivering goody bags to show our appreciation for all their hard work. We realize our program cannot be successful without their commitment and input. Thank you parents for all you do!

Extended School Year
We look forward to seeing our students in our interactive in-person program this summer for the ESY program. Rising ninth graders will become acclimated to the high school expectations through Deliberate Talk, a debate class that will spark their intellect and bolster communication skills.
|
|
Upperclassmen will have the opportunity to complete credit recovery projects to make up credits in classes they struggled with during distance learning. Each class has developed a positive behavior reinforcement program and every week students will receive incentives for attending and completing assignments. Students will also have the opportunity to improve their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goal-related skills through our online Mathia and Lexia workbook programs.
