NEWS - June 7, 2021
A few hours after this issue is released, Apple will present the opening keynote for their WWDC 2021 conference. This event tells us where Apple is headed for the next year. As always, rumors are rampant and expectations are high.

WWDC is always a highlight, but this year, I think, will be even more eventful. Apple set the stage last year with its formal announcement, and ultimate release, of new Apple silicon chips. This year, we will see those chips unleashed - with significant potential for media creators.

Still, chips are only as good as the software that runs on them - and software is the true focus of WWDC. While very little that is presented at the conference will be immediately released, what we learn this week will help us prepare for the future. For the first time in years, breakthrough technology - not just incremental improvements - promises new ways to communicate using images and video. The M1 series of chips are specifically designed for visual folks like us. The opening act, last year, was stunning. Today, we watch the second act unfold.

Things are quiet the week before WWDC. Most of the media industry is busily working, waiting to see what Apple announces. Things will get noisy afterward.

Last week's webinar - Image Editing and Repair Using Adobe Photoshop - was well-attended and fun to present. I showcased several features and tools that I've never covered before. Photoshop is an amazing tool, even if, like me, you can't draw a straight line without mechanical assistance. If you are member of my Video Training Library, it is well worth your time to watch. Otherwise, you can get your copy in my store.

Webinars are taking next week off so I can get my leg attended to. I'll be back in two weeks. In the meantime, please visit my store. We have over 300 webinars (316 to be exact) covering a wide range of subjects. I suspect you'll find a session that can solve a problem you are having at work.

I have five tutorials for you this week covering Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop. You'll find them listed in the Tutorials & Reviews section below.

All my computers are getting long in the tooth, which is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Apple's transition to their new chips. I'm hoping to replace a very old laptop and my main iMac with ... something. My hope is that later today we will learn more about what that "something" is.

Just a reminder, experience has taught us to be patient with new operating system updates. WWDC is targeted at developers to encourage them to create software for the new operating system. We are months away from any of us needing to think about upgrading. So, relax and enjoy the show.

Until next Monday, stay safe, stay healthy and stay hopeful. Oh! And edit well.
