IBC is over. The "next big thing" is Apple's release of
and the new Mac Pro. As I was thinking about this week's issue I realized these might happen together, and hopefully early in October. I don't know anything for sure, but it is fun to dream. Plus, we also get to wait for the products announced at IBC to ship
On a far less pleasant note, I found myself in the embarrassing position of someone
hijacking my email
address and spamming people. I first mentioned this last week, but the situation got worse. In desperation, I reached out to a friend who specializes in digital forensics and security to see if there was anything I could do to stop this. I discovered, to my surprise, that there was a LOT that could be done.
My lead article today explains what happened in more detail - and more importantly
what I did to stop it
. In this article, I also provide links for you to learn more. If you are running your own business, with your own email and website, you
to read this article. There are specific, practical steps you can take today to lock out hackers and minimize opportunities for someone to hijack your email. It only took a few hours and it stopped the problem.

One of the cool things we can do in Photoshop is
create cast shadows
. This used to be hard, but, recently, Adobe added new features to make it a lot easier. While, I grant, creating cast shadows in Photoshop strays a bit from the video focus of my newsletters, this is such fun to do that I want to share it with you.
Finally, my last story is on
planning and storyboards
. As soon as I start my "Time to Plan" lecture, I can see my students eyeing the exits. Smile... I know, planning is boring. But it is also essential. In this article I share my thoughts on the key questions that planning needs to answer, the role that storyboards play, and I provide a FREE storyboard PDF you can use for your own projects.
As always, feel free to send questions. I'm always looking for something to write about. Until we chat again next week,
