Last week, I wrote an article on how to create vertical video in DaVinci Resolve. My intentions were good, but it wasn't as accurate as it could have been. So, this week, I have tutorials on how to create vertical video in all three NLEs - including an update to my original Resolve article.

IN CLOSING
These last two weeks, intensively editing more than five dozen interviews in Resolve, was a worthwhile experience. First, I am much more comfortable using Resolve - discovering its strengths and quirks. More importantly, though, was realizing how many different formats of the same thing we need to create today.
Each interview was shot & edited horizontally, then converted to a vertical version. Each horizontal interview had three versions: my website, YouTube, and Creative Cow. Each vertical iteration had two versions: with titles and without. Also, while these were shot in MPEG-4 MXF, several were converted to ProRes.
That works out to more than 300 different videos! I better understand now why workflow automation software was invented to manage all these versions. And that's before we even started creating short clips for social media....
All these versions reminded me of just how diverse our audiences are - so many formats for different distribution channels. While there's still the intensely creative process of recording and editing the original interview, that's only a fraction of the time required to get the finished work posted everywhere it needs to be.
Like I said, I learned a lot and look forward to sharing what I learned with you in coming weeks.
Until next Monday, stay healthy, stay hopeful and edit well.
