August 26, 2024

For the tail end of August, there's a lot to talk about. A few days ago, Adobe released new versions of Premiere Pro, Audition, Media Encoder, Bridge and more. Here are the details.

The Los Angeles Times posted a thoughtful "Wide Shot" column on Hollywood's "Summer of Layoffs." The impact of slowing production, projects moving away from LA, and the impact of AI are all having an effect. This is worth reading.

If the rumors are true, September and October should see new hardware releases from Apple. While it appears that new computers appear magically out of thin air, the actual process of creating new hardware takes years. Here’s an overview of why Apple (or any other manufacturer) can’t create new products overnight.

Recently, I've been compressing a lot of media and looking for ways to get faster. From that search comes this article on how to use the automation tools built-into Apple Compressor to speed exports and media compression.

For those that provided their opinions on last week's webinar survey, thank you! (If you didn't, you can still contribute your thoughts here.) I am always looking for ways to improve my training and make it more valuable to you. Your answers have helped me a lot. (Especially if you haven't purchased a webinar recently!)

Even though IBC is less than three weeks away, this time of August always seems exceptionally quiet. More like the calm before the storm, I guess. Lots of new products and ideas will descend upon us over the next two months. It's exciting, of course. All of us enjoy opening presents. But, there is also no doubt our industry remains in transition. We are surrounded by both challenges and opportunities. Hopefully, over these same next months, we'll begin to see how it's all going to settle out.

Until next Monday, stay healthy, stay safe and edit well.
