Edit Smarter logo with Larry

January 12, 2026

Our series - Looking back at 2025 to make sense of 2026 - concludes this week with two more outstanding essays.

First, marketing maven Andy Marken looks at the impact of AI on our industry with a specific focus on "the business shift that set the stage for the uncertainty of change that we’ll experience in the next two years."

Then, Abe Abt, from AJA Video Systems, explores an aspect of production that no one else has mentioned: the rise of IP-based production and post.

This core technology enables remote production and world-wide teams, without regard to where folks are located.

All twelve of these essays are thought-provoking and helped me better understand the forces buffeting our industry. Thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughts or comments.

Last week's webinar - Ask Larry Anything! - covered a range of subjects, from optimizing your system to questions covering Final Cut, Premiere and Resolve.

The complete list of subjects is listed in the store page. Now available for a special low price - no coupon needed!

This will be my last webinar for a while. I want to spend time thinking about how to make these online presentations more effective. I'll let you know when these restart in my newsletter.

Without question, the question I'm asked the most is how to configure or optimize a Mac for video editing. And, these days, the answer revolves around storage and RAM.

In this short video, I explain what you need to know, whether you are using Final Cut, Premiere or Resolve.

Recently, Richard Auerbach described how AI is enabling him to get his work done faster and better.

I found his positive reactions helpful and interesting, which is why I'm sharing them with you.

Another long-standing question is whether, when we leave our computer for a bit, we should leave them as is, put them to sleep or shut them down.

The answer? Both. Here's what you need to know.

I talked about creating DCP packages in a recent webinar.

Here, Alan Olmstead, owner of Sirius Studios, shares tips he learned when creating a DCP file for his recent film “Autumn Run.”

Rob asked what seemed to be a simple question: "How do I create rolling titles in DaVinci Resolve?" But, wow!, what a rabbit hole THAT proved to me.

After two days of research, I found three answers - from graphically simple to graphically complex - all of which I present here.

This next feature has been in Premiere for a long time, but, unless you know it's there, you'll never find it by accident.

This illustrates how to edit one section of a timeline in Premiere into another timeline.

Finally, let's wrap up with a series of predictions for 2026.

Larry O’Connor, CEO of OWC, made three predictions affecting storage and media creators for 2026: On cloud storage, Infrastructure, and AI.

Twenty-two years and one week ago, I published my first newsletter. It came out monthly. Then, as the digital video industry grew, I shifted from monthly to weekly. Now, 834 issues, 3,518 tutorials, 922 podcasts and 391 webinars later, I'm going back to monthly; released on the first Monday of each month.

I truly enjoy writing these newsletters and, especially, my conversations with you. But I need more time to get my other work done. This also gives me space to rethink my webinars to make them more effective.

Everything else about my website remains the same. News will still be posted to my Home Page. New tutorials will still be written. My store and Video Training Library remain. And my newsletter will keep coming out - just not as often.

Best of all, I'm still on email and happy to help. Working with you has made all these years pass quickly. I'm looking forward to continuing our relationship long into the future.

Until next month, stay healthy, stay hopeful and edit well.
