As you read this, I'm heading to Los Angeles to demo AI tools in Final Cut, Premiere and Resolve at the monthly LA Creative Pro User Group meeting Tuesday night. I've got some very cool demos!

One of the tasks that I enjoy when presenting to any group is answering questions. A recent question from Hanno Hart became my lead story this week. It's one I get frequently: Should I upgrade my hardware and, if so, what should I buy?

Last week's webinar was very popular - there were several hundred people watching. It was good to get back to presenting again. I showcased AI-powered tools in Final Cut and Premiere.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that folks prefer to buy webinars that focus on specific software rather than showing the same effect being created in multiple tools.

So, I created two sessions from last week: AI-Powered Tools in Final Cut Pro and AI-Powered Tools in Adobe Premiere Pro. Then, I gave both of them a new low price. They are also available in my Video Training Library.

My first tutorial this week is a detailed look at what we can do with the Magnetic Mask in Final Cut Pro.

As I was prepping for my webinar last week, I found a way to create a popular text effect that you will find many uses for.

Adobe is committed to creating tools that enhance the work of editors, not replace them.

To that end, they added AI-powered search to clips inside a Premiere project. It's called "Media Intelligence" and this short video shows how it works.

The upcoming release of DaVinci Resolve has more than 100 new features - many of them powered by AI.

A fascinating new feature is an automated way to animate subtitles. Here’s an illustrated tutorial on how this works.

Apple continues to make it easier to convert speech to text using AI to simplify creating captions in Final Cut Pro.

In this short video, I demonstrate how to create captions, how to convert their format and how to add additional languages.

The LA Creative Pro User Group began in June, 2000. Founded by members of the 2.pop community and headed by Mike Horton, it has met monthly for the last 25 years. I wandered into a meeting in 2002 and have had the pleasure of attending and presenting to the group many times since.

It is impossible to overstate the impact Mike and his team have had on the world-wide user community over the years; first for Final Cut, then expanding to all creative video apps. It was the place to come to learn what's new, what works, what doesn't, meet old friends and make new ones. It was an online and in-person community. It was amazing.

But the world moves on. User groups, which used to be dominant in the creative community, have been replaced by online forums. Most user groups have closed due to lack of interest. Meeting people and learning face-to-face isn't as convenient as tuning in online, but something is lost in that digital connection.

Mike is closing the group after the June meeting. Attendance has fallen and running a monthly user group takes a LOT of work. I won't be able to attend the final session, which is why I am so proud to be invited to present at this one.

I've know Mike Horton for 25 years and worked with him every week on the live Digital Production Buzz podcast for twelve. I have never known anyone more committed to empowering editors to succeed. The ending of LACPUG is the end of an era. It has been the honor of a lifetime to have worked with Mike, Philip, Greg, Dean and the entire crew over these many years. Some are still with us, many others are not. I send them all my best wishes as they look for something new to do on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

LACPUG will be missed; as will its "World Famous Raffle!™" and its special prize of an Automatic Duck bottle opener.

AI-Powered Tools in Apple Final Cut Pro

AI is everywhere – but it is not the same everywhere. While generative AI brags about all the ways it will replace people; developers – especially developers of creative software – are looking for ways to use AI as a tool to simplify tasks without replacing the human at the center.

In this session, Larry Jordan showcases the AI-powered tools in Final Cut Pro 11.

AI-Powered Tools in Adobe Premiere Pro

AI is everywhere – but it is not the same everywhere. Each video editing system has implemented AI differently and all of them are developing ways to enable media creators to do more with the tools they have.

In this session, Larry Jordan demos the AI-powered tools in the 2025 version of Premiere Pro.
