Thunderbolt 5 storage is now real! Last week, OWC announced the OWC Envoy Ultra SSD, which connects via Thunderbolt 5. This technology promises at least 2X the performance when transferring files. But the real benefit is the ability to connect multiple 4K, 5K, 6K, even 8K monitors to the same Thunderbolt port!

To help us understand the promise of Thunderbolt 5, I interviewed Larry O'Connor, CEO of OWC, to learn more.

I should point out that Apple has not yet announced support for Thunderbolt 5. It is not possible to retrofit existing Macs to this technology. The Envoy Ultra will be shipping in October.

We continue exploring DaVinci Resolve 19 in this week's webinar: Multicam and Double-system Editing in DaVinci Resolve 19. My main emphasis is on creating, syncing, editing and trimming multicam clips. However, along the way, I'll also explain the Sync Bin and when to use it, highlight a hidden bug you need to work around, and illustrate a little-known feature called the Take Selector. I also discovered a very cool stress test that you'll want to see. As always, my live webinars are free.

Oh! I'll also be using some new audio gear this Wednesday. Take a listen and let me know what you think. A review coming in the next week or two.

Archiving media for the long-term is not easy - because everything digital dies. Ars Technica ran a cautionary article on the problems the music industry is having as their historical files are slowly disappearing. "Historical" meaning from the 1990s!

Nic Dean is the developer of Captioneer, a Premiere Pro extension that creates animated captions directly in your timeline. If you use Premiere, you'll want to read my interview with Nic.

Templates are a great way to save time when creating visual effects in Final Cut Pro. Creating a template in Motion doesn't require either great artistic or programming skills. In this tutorial, I illustrate a variety of techniques you can use to create templates in Motion. I also provide a free Motion project that you can download and use for yourself.

So, how's business these days? I'm interested in your take on the state of our industry. Is it good - bad - 'bout the same? Send me an email with your story. My goal is to compile everyone's thoughts into an article and publish it in the next week or two. All stories will be anonymous unless you give me permission to use your name. What are your challenges - and where are your successes?

Please email me your thoughts. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Until next Monday, stay healthy, stay hopeful and edit well.
