The news this week is all about IBC 2025, in Amsterdam. (Well, that and last week's Fusion webinar - more on that in a bit.) Unlike NAB, which seems to be waffling, IBC remains clearly focused on media. So, this weekend, Laura Peters, from my staff, took her mic and camera to Amsterdam to discover what's new.

To start, I asked her to listen to which subjects were trending in conversation. She summarized them here.

A quick note. Apple will be releasing macOS 26 shortly. It will be great - but not yet.

My strong recommedation is to avoid upgrading any system that is critical to your operation until upgrades are released.

More than TWO DOZEN announcements relevant to us at IBC 2025 last week.

All the details are in the News section of my home page.

While Laura Peters recorded around two dozen interviews over the weekend, she only sent a few in time for this newsletter. However, by the end of today, I should have most of them posted, so revisit this page when you can.

These start with Adobe announcing the latest version of Premiere Pro, but also includes Maxon, Pixit Media, Strada and Telestream. Still to come are fascinating interviews with OWC and Atomos that I know you'll want to hear.

Help a Friend Learn

Last week's webinar on Learning Fusion in DaVinci Resolve 20 had almost 200 attendees! As Howard wrote: "Your walk-through making titles in Fusion was astonishingly clear for such a daunting program." We created these titles in this session.

If Fusion intimidates you as much as it did me, you are probably ignoring it. However, when it comes to formatting and animating text, you are overlooking a powerful tool. In less than an hour, I'll teach you everything you need to know to create effective animated titles. In fact, I used the titles that I created in the webinar in editing the final version for posting.

I guarantee this will take away the fear and unlock exciting new possibilities.

Just as a taste, this video excerpt provides an introduction to the Fusion interface, along with illustrating how to easily add embedded text to a video clip.

However, the real power in Fusion is creating Fusion comps and that's what the rest of the webinar presents.

IBC was the focus this week. However, rather than simply post each guest individually, I created an "IBC 2025 Video Interview Index" page which makes it easy to see who we've interviewed and quickly jump to any company you want to view.

I'll update this page over the next 48 hours with new material. Each interview runs between 1 - 3 minutes.

As Kylee Peña (Adobe) made clear in her interview, these remain tumultuous times for our industry. Jobs are still scarce in many parts of the country. All of us feel threatened to some degree by AI - especially generative AI. The old adage posits: "Change is a constant." It seems to me more like "change is constantly accelerating!"

One of the ideas I'm thinking about is creating a series of video interviews with industry leaders, not just about their products but about the industry, the changes we are experiencing, and ways we can use technology to lift us up, rather than drown us.

My hope is to start these interviews later this month. But before I get too carried away, does this idea seem interesting to you? Who would you like me to talk with?

Email me your thoughts, suggest companies for me to talk with, even provide questions for guidance. I'm mostly interested in learning whether this idea is good enough that you would listen. If not, what would?

Take care, and edit well.
