Unlike many of the pre-packaged effects in our NLEs, where the effect is essentially a single unit where we can tweak a few settings, effects in Fusion are extremely granular. This makes learning the app very difficult, but, once learned, Fusion gives us an extraordinary control over what we can create.
Fusion is significantly different from "ordinary" effects:
- Fusion effects are a process workflow, consisting of linked nodes, each providing a single step in the process.
- Clips are created using frame counts, not timecode. This means that an effect duration will change depending upon the frame rate of the project you put it in.
- The background layer determines the resolution of the effect, not the project you put it in.
- Fusion effects can be embedded into a clip or created as a stand-alone comp.
In my webinar on Wednesday, I'll show how to create two useful, animated text effects: a multi-line lower third title and a single-line animated disclaimer. Each requires a variety of common nodes, which you will find essential in creating your own title effects. (I modeled these after titles I use every week in editing my webinars.)
