LARVAL MOSQUITO CONTROL TO TAKE PLACE IN BRENTWOOD

Due to the detection of the invasive species Aedes aegypti mosquito in the area, the Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District (District) will be using truck-mounted, wide-area larvicide application equipment to control larval mosquitoes in the following area: Brentwood, CA.

TIME: Between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Location #1: Brentwood, CA

The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Central Blvd., on the south by Balfour Rd., on the east by Walnut Blvd., and on the west by Marsh Creek (the waterway).

The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Spring St., on the south by Balfour Rd., on the east by Minnesota Ave., and on the west by Fairview Ave.

Location #3: Brentwood, CA

The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Sand Creek Rd., on the south by Spruce St., on the east by Garin Pkwy., and on the west by Brentwood Blvd.

MATERIALS USED: The public health pesticide to be used is VectoBac WDG, which is a bacterial larvicide that only impacts

mosquito larvae. This bacterial larvicide does not impact other insects or animals. The public health pesticide will be applied at a rate of 8 ounces per acre by truck-mounted wide-area larvicide spray equipment.

The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District utilizes an integrated vector management program, which means we use a variety of protocols for controlling mosquitoes. These protocols include public education, physical control including managing vector habitat, biological control such as mosquitofish, and chemical control such as public health pesticides.

The majority of the District's mosquito control is completed when mosquitoes are still in their aquatic form, in their water source. We use only those products registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) for the use of mosquito control and protecting public health. They are applied by our trained and certified technicians according to label instructions.
