Las Positas College to Celebrate New Academic Support and Office Building and Landscape Renovation Project

(Livermore, Calif., November 13, 2023) – Las Positas College (LPC) invites you to their ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new Academic Support and Office Building and the New Landscape Renovation Project on November 14 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on-campus. The ribbon–cutting will take place at the front entrance of Building 2100. District Chancellor Ronald P. Gerhard, Chabot-Las Positas Board of Trustees President Tim Sbranti, Trustee Hal Gin, Trustee Stephen Lanza, Student Trustee Omar Au and LPC President, Dr. Dyrell Foster, along with other faculty, local businesses, and local representatives will be present at the ribbon-cutting to celebrate the momentous occasion for the college.

"I am delighted we are hosting the ribbon cutting ceremony and official opening of the new Academic Support and Office Building at Las Positas College, said Dr. Dyrell Foster, president of LPC. “This modern facility represents a significant milestone in our commitment to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment for our students. The opening of this new building also marks a transformative step forward in our ongoing efforts to enhance student success and provide our community with the resources they need to excel in their educational journey.”

Designed by LPAS Architecture & Designer, the 88,000 square foot building was recently finished and is now functioning as a hub of instruction and services to the entire campus with modern computer labs, math labs, English classrooms, a tutoring center, study areas, and faculty offices. The building fosters an environment where students can receive the assistance they need to excel in their coursework.  This project recently received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification for being a healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green building, which offers environmental, social and governance benefits.

This new campus learning and studying center was funded by Measure A, a $950 million bond for the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District that was approved by voters in June 2016.

"In 2016, voters in Alameda County supported Bond Measure A for the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District by a 65% margin," said Ronald Gerhard, Chancellor for the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. "The new Academic Support & Office Building is a result of that community investment and allows us to provide state-of-the-art learning spaces to meet the evolving needs of our students."

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will also celebrate the completion of the new Landscape Renovation Project designed by Cupples Keller Designs with input from LPC students and college employees. The new outdoor space starts at the entrance of the Student Services & Administration Building, Building 1600, and extends to the Multi-Disciplinary Education Building, Building 2400. The renovation features a new Las Positas College sign, grass, trees, plantings and outdoor seating spaces. The new transformed space provides students, college staff, and community members with a serene outdoor environment to gather and socialize.
