Hello Friends,
Barb and I have enjoyed splitting time between Las Vegas and Norman this season. And when we returned to Oklahoma last week just before the winter storm many in the Midwest experienced, we were reminded that many of you also experiencing it will be joining us in Las Vegas for golf in just three months. And we can’t wait to see you!
This May is going to be special. Our 15th year. Our biggest group ever. Amazing courses and even better people. We know we say it over and over - but THANK YOU for helping us fight cancer. It’s a must-win game.
|
|
|
If you haven’t secured your foursome, please do so immediately. Space is limited as demand is so high.
On behalf of all the coaches, Sanford Health, MGM Resorts and all our sponsors, we’ll see you in sunny Las Vegas soon.

The UPS Store celebrates great eight
Sponsorship takes special meaning in year eight
|
A great teammate develops real relationships with their teammates. And trust between teammates is an important foundation for the success of any team. For the past eight years The UPS Store and Tom Englund have provided enormous support for the Las Vegas Golf Classic. Whether it be monetarily as a Starting Lineup sponsor, or logistically in support of Classic guests, Tom and The UPS Store have always been there.
|
|
“The partnership with The UPS Store is one of the wonderful stories and relationships we have developed with Coaches vs. Cancer in Las Vegas,” said event founder Lon Kruger. “Tom Englund is such a great teammate to all of our partners, and we are grateful for his and the organization’s continued support.”
Englund (pictured on the left) was quick to point out that the relationship and support go both ways, and he offered his personal experience on why year eight carries special meaning to him.
|
|
“Coaches vs. Cancer and the Las Vegas Golf Classic are more than just another sponsorship for me. The added awareness through being involved with the Classic may have saved my life,” shared Englund who was diagnosed with prostate cancer this winter and is currently undergoing treatment. A process he says is going very well.
“Early diagnosis and detection were key for me,” Englund said. “My doctors are extremely happy with the progress of my case. But without our involvement with the Classic, I probably would have never been screened which has allowed for early detection. I am eternally grateful for what Coaches vs. Cancer has done for me.”
The UPS Store is the world's largest franchisor of retail shipping, postal, printing and business service centers providing convenient and value-added business services to the small-office/home-office market, corporate "road warriors" and consumers.

Overtime with Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman and his wife, Danyelle
|
Danyelle, three words you would use to describe your husband?
Insomniac, motivator and OCD (that’s three letters but it counts as one word).
Coach, three words you would use to describe your wife?
Happy, enthusiastic and fun.
Danyelle, what’s a perfect date night for you?
We have it every single night. We get in our bed at 9 o’ clock, and we watch Netflix.
Coach Muss, were you listening to her answer?
Yes, loud and clear.
What is some life advice that you’ve been given that you’d like to share?
Coach: It’s what my dad shared - to bring those three Es - having effort, energy, enthusiasm every single day. And be positive. When you wake up… the impact that I can have on my wife, the impact that I can have on my daughter before I go to work. What type of mood are you sending your daughter off to school with. And then what type of effect is she going to have on her classmates. And what type of effect is Danyelle going to have if she goes to spin class. And what type of effect am I going to have with my basketball team or the guys in our office. Have a good, positive outlook. Try to have fun on a daily basis.
|
|
Danyelle: Something my mom told me, and I’ve never forgotten it. I’ve shared it with Eric many times. They don’t read your resume at your funeral. You never can get so caught up in your job that you forget about those that are most important to you. Your real family and your friends - they’re the ones who are going to show up and are going to miss you at the end of the day. You’re going to be replaced at your job the day after you pass away so you can’t let that be number one in your life.

Answer: Oregon’s Dana Altman - who helped to found the Las Vegas Golf Classic 15 years ago - collected his 700th career victory Jan. 14 when his Ducks topped then No. 3 UCLA, 83-79. Altman is one of only five active coaches in NCAA Division I with 24 consecutive winning seasons. He is part of an exclusive fraternity that includes Hall-of-Famers Mike Krzyzewski, Tom Izzo, Bill Self and Jim Boeheim.
