American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic 2020 E-Update
April 2020 l Issue No. 4
Dear CvC Teammates,

We hope this message finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe during these historically challenging times.

While we won’t be together as usual in May for the 13th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health , we are pleased to announce this year’s event has been rescheduled to Sunday-Tuesday, Aug. 9-11, 2020 . A special thank you to MGM Resorts (including MGM Grand ), Shadow Creek and Southern Highlands for making the change seamless. This event thrives because of our partners’ dedication to helping Coaches vs. Cancer defeat cancer.

Speaking of cancer, it hasn’t stopped because of the COVID-19 virus. And neither will we in our fight against it. Our support of Coaches vs. Cancer is as critical today as ever. Cancer patients have become even more vulnerable during this time and the American Cancer Society - like so many during this pandemic - has been adversely impacted and it needs our steadfast support to help save lives. (Please see below about how ACS is helping now.)
Together, we are going to come out of this challenge stronger than ever. We are so looking forward to seeing you in Las Vegas in August. Thank you for being on our Coaches vs. Cancer team.

Head Coach, University of Oklahoma
Founder, Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic
Cancer patients more vulnerable to COVID-19
American Cancer Society takes immediate action to save lives
Cancer hasn’t stopped and neither will we. As the COVID-19 crisis grows, cancer patients - many of whom already have compromised immune systems - are more vulnerable than ever. To combat this, the American Cancer Society is focusing on helping cancer patients and communities facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here are just a few key ways the American Cancer Society will help during the ongoing crisis:

  • Hope Lodge COVID-19 Response - Last month's decision to close our Hope Lodge facilities was heartbreaking. Now we have an opportunity to use our nationwide network of Hope Lodge facilities to temporarily house front line health care workers during the crisis.

  • COVID-19 Information For Cancer Patients - Information is a critically-important resource right now. We’re continually updating cancer.org and our social media channels with the latest information and guidance for cancer patients from our public health experts. Visit cancer.org/coronavirus to see our resources.

  • Reducing Isolation - Our trained Cancer Information Specialists are available 24/7 to provide accurate, up-to-date information and offer valuable services and resources to cancer patients, their caregivers and families. Contact us by phone at 1-800-227-2345 or Live Chat.
Date change costs LV Classic Rucker performance
Scheduling conflict won't allow GRAMMY Award-winner to appear in 2020
Due to the change of dates caused by the COVID-19 crisis, GRAMMY Award-winning artist Darius Rucker will not be performing a private concert during the 13th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health . Rucker has a previously scheduled engagement.

“We’re hopeful Darius will be able to join us in Las Vegas for the Classic at some point, but it just won’t be this year,” said Lon Kruger , founder of the LV Classic. “He’s dedicated to helping others and loves what Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society do. We appreciate him being willing to volunteer his time and amazing talents.”

The Rucker relationship was made possible through South Carolina coach Frank Martin , a longtime participant in the LV Golf Classic.
The UPS Store keeps delivering for the LV Classic
Support from sponsor is year-round in Las Vegas
Las Vegas has become a hotbed for Coaches vs. Cancer activity throughout the year. In addition to the popular Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health , several Las Vegas-based events throughout the year benefit the American Cancer Society and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) program.

And whenever Coaches vs. Cancer needs shipping or additional business support, Tom Englund and The UPS Store Las Vegas team deliver - literally.

“We take our partnership with Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society very seriously and want to help in any way we can,” Englund said. “Our team members in Las Vegas are amazing. They’re dedicated to helping coaches fight this battle against cancer. Together, we’re going to win."

This August marks the sixth year The UPS Store will be a Starting Lineup sponsor for the LV Classic.
“Tremendous teammates,” said Classic founder Lon Kruger about Englund and The UPS Store. “They’ve taken full ownership of being a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer team. From the sponsorship to being there for us throughout the year, they make us better. Special people to work with and have on our side.”

The UPS Store is the world's largest franchisor of retail shipping, postal, printing and business service centers providing convenient and value-added business services to the small-office/home-office market, corporate "road warriors" and consumers.
"Hole Hero" program seeking new supporters in 2020
Program underwrites golf, honors loved ones
The popular "Hole Hero" program will return for the 2020 Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health and organizers are looking for new supporters.
The program allows participants to honor a loved one who has passed away from cancer, is being treated for cancer or is a survivor. While helping organizers to offset the golf provided to players during the event, the program allows underwriters to celebrate those in their lives impacted by cancer.

"Hole Hero" sponsorships are $5,000 and will include signage on the course, exposure in e-newsletters and special recognition during the night events at MGM Grand . Underwriters - who are also golfing in the event - will receive an additional free round of golf for four at either Southern Highlands Golf Club or DragonRidge Country Club in the Las Vegas valley. If you or someone you know is interested in more information about the program or wants to renew from last year, please contact Lon Kruger at [email protected] or D.J. Allen at [email protected] or (702) 339-0991.
