American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic 2021 E-Update
February 2021 l Issue No. 3
Dear CvC Teammates,

Cancer hasn’t gone away. One could argue that cancer patients are impacted in as negative a way as anybody during this pandemic because the hospitals aren’t allowing access to guests, and you don’t have your loved ones by your side as you’re going through the fight. If there’s ever a time for us to keep people fighting a terrible disease at the top of our minds and in our hearts, it’s now during this pandemic.

We found a way to have a special time last August in Las Vegas and raise dollars for the American Cancer Society - and we are dedicated to do it again this May. Despite the challenges, the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic - presented by Sanford Health - keeps growing. Wald Family Foods is joining the team as a “Starting Lineup” sponsor (see more below) and Coach Kruger is pushing hard for a 2021 sellout of foursomes to provide much needed dollars to the fight.
Please play your role. Together, we’re going to win. Thank you and see you in Las Vegas in May.

The 10th Annual Creighton vs. Cancer Pink Out auction raised more than $40,000 earlier this month. The annual Pink Out game has raised nearly $300,000 benefiting the ACS Hope Lodge facility in Omaha throughout the years.
Wald Family Foods joins LV Classic sponsor lineup
CEO Tommy Wald thrilled to boost support in the fight against cancer
Wald Family Foods is a NEW "Starting Lineup" sponsor for 2021, with a strong commitment to continue through 2023 at a minimum.
CEO Tommy Wald is thrilled to be able to participate at a higher level.

"I've competed in the golf tournament for a few years before the pandemic, and I was so impressed by the Coaches vs. Cancer organization and their event as a whole,” said Wald. “I'm naturally drawn to the event because I played college basketball in the 90s (Nebraska; GO BIG RED!) and I just love the college game. Each year, I'd return home from the tournament and want to do more in the fight against cancer. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be in this position and able to help."

Wald Family Foods is a family-owned food manufacturer with facilities in Nebraska and Kansas whose products are found all over North America. Their customers include many of the world's premier food brand companies and national retailers.
Familiar LV Golf Classic coaching names in the spotlight this season
Coaches leading teams to success - on court and against cancer
So many coaches work so hard in the fight against cancer it’s easy to forget it’s not their first priority. The platform of being a Division-I basketball coach allows them the opportunity to help lead the Coaches vs. Cancer effort. As March Madness is just weeks away, coaches with ties to the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health have their teams in the national spotlight.

Iowa’s Fran McCaffery and Illinois’ Brad Underwood (pictured) lead two of the top teams in the Big Ten, one of the toughest conferences in the nation. Both programs have spent several weeks ranked in the Top 10 this season. (McCaffery’s wife, Margaret, serves on the national board of the American Cancer Society.) Speaking of spending time in the Top 10, Greg McDermott’s Creighton Bluejays have been a regular in the rankings all year out of the Big East. Purdue’s Matt Painter, Chicago Loyola’s Porter Moser and USC's Andy Enfield also have their squads ranked in the most recent Top 25.

Of course, North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Oregon’s Dana Altman - both fixtures with the LV Golf Classic - lead two of the most consistent programs in the nation and have both spent time in the Top 25 this season, along with Mick Cronin's UCLA squad. And then there is event founder Lon Kruger. Kruger’s Oklahoma squad had a historic January becoming just the third team in history (and first since 1974) to beat four Top 10 teams in one month as the Sooners found their way into the Top 10 earlier this month.

Good luck to all our coaches as you finish this unique year - we are rooting for you. And THANK YOU for leading our team as we fight cancer!

Steve Stallworth has participated in the Las Vegas Golf Classic throughout the years and is looking forward to this May's event.
"Coach Kruger and the team of Classic supporters continue to deliver for those affected by cancer. I’ve followed the evolution of this event over the last decade, and I’m always impressed by the teamwork, camaraderie and genuine interest by all involved to finish the fight against this terrible disease.
