American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic 2023 E-Update

March 2023│Issue No. 2

March Madness is here! And ESPN's Sean Farnham - a key member of the Las Vegas Golf Classic team - has a message for you from Las Vegas.

Event raised more than $1.8 million in 2022

Congratulations. Because of you, the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic keeps making news while saving lives. The Classic was once again No. 1 among all American Cancer Society nationwide golf events in 2022 raising over $1.8 million.

“The passion those involved have for the Las Vegas Classic has made it a model event for our entire organization,” said Natalie Morrison, senior director of Coaches vs. Cancer for ACS. “It is how Coach Kruger operates - invite people to be involved with something special while helping others. It’s a championship formula.”

Coaches vs. Cancer’s National Golf Classic last summer outside Chicago was also a Top 5 event raising over $800K for the American Cancer Society.

Scott Shuler was the first Starting Lineup sponsor to commit when organizers restructured the Classic prior to the 2014 event and Top of the World has been a key sponsor every year since. Let’s get to know Scott Shuler even more.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Motivated, hardworking and blessed.

If you had your own yacht, what would you name it?

Our family nickname which is the “Shucru.”

What motivates you the most?

The Golden Rule… wake up every morning with that in mind.

Best life lesson you have learned and like to share?

From the ages of 6-16, our family moved five times. Those many relocations taught me how to accept and adapt to change. I lean on that experience to this day.

Which superpower do you wish you had?

The ability to look into the future, but not too far. Just six minutes ahead to avoid any mistakes (saying something I didn’t intend, etc.).

Why are you involved in the Classic?

It’s so important to be involved in the fight. Cancer, sadly, touches everybody. We’re so proud to play a small part in helping to find a cure. Coach Kruger and the team do an amazing job on the event - and we love catching up with old friends and playing some great courses.

Company remains committed to the fight against cancer

Wald Family Foods is proud to be back as a “Starting Lineup” sponsor for the third consecutive year.

As a leader in food manufacturing for some of the world's largest brands, Wald Family Foods has noticed a growing demand for healthier food.

Studies from the American Cancer Society show that a healthy diet can ward off cancer,” shared CEO Tommy Wald (pictured). “We've recently seen a trend towards clean labels and healthier raw ingredients. I think that speaks volumes about society’s transition to healthier lifestyles. We hope to see this trend continue in an effort to fight cancer.”

Wald Family Foods looks forward to connecting with the organization’s coaches and partners at the upcoming golf event. They wish the best for the coaches who are continuing to battle on the court for the remainder of the season.

“We want to wish luck to all the active coaches of Coaches vs. Cancer as they enter the postseason,” said Wald.

Program underwrites golf, honors loved ones

The popular "Hole Hero" program will return for the 2023 Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health and organizers are looking for new supporters.

The program allows participants to honor a loved one who has passed away from cancer, is being treated for cancer or is a survivor. While helping organizers to offset the golf provided to players during the event, the program allows "Hole Hero" sponsors to celebrate those in their lives impacted by cancer.

"Hole Hero" sponsorships are $5,000 and will include signage on the course, exposure in e-newsletters and special recognition during the Sunday night event at Park MGM. Sponsors - who are also golfing in the event - will receive an additional free round of golf for four at either Southern Highlands Golf Club, DragonRidge Country Club or Reflection Bay Golf Club in the Las Vegas valley. If you or someone you know is interested in more information about the program or wants to renew from last year, please contact Lon Kruger at [email protected] or Bridget Byrne at [email protected].
