American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic 2020 E-Update
May 2020 l Issue No. 5
Dear Coaches vs. Cancer Teammates,

Cancer hasn’t stopped, and neither have we.

It’s been a privilege to be involved with Lon Kruger and coaches from around the nation since the inception of the Las Vegas Golf Classic 13 years ago. The commitment to support the American Cancer Society is real. The love for others is real. All you have to do is attend the event each year and feel it.

Obviously, this year’s event brings with it a unique set of circumstances as we are all adjusting to the pandemic. But cancer keeps taking lives. In fact, cancer patients are more vulnerable than ever and that’s why so many people are committed to making the 2020 Classic happen.
Thank you to all the coaches who lead our efforts and thank you to fellow sponsors - including Sanford Health and MGM Resorts - who are dedicated to making the Las Vegas Golf Classic continue to be one of the premier events of its kind in the nation as we raise money to save lives.

Now, more than ever, thank you for your commitment. We’ll see you in Las Vegas in August.

Sanford Health fights pandemic - and cancer
Presenting sponsor continues to lead LV Classic support
The pandemic has impacted all of us in different ways. Sanford Health - the presenting sponsor of the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic - is on the front lines as one of the largest health systems in the United States.
“We are so appreciative of what all the health care workers across the country have been doing to care for those in need while putting their own health at risk,” said Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger , founder of the Las Vegas Classic. “Sanford Health has been the biggest fan of this event in recent years and it’s our turn to return that support.”

“As we rally together during these difficult times, Sanford Health is honored to continue our support of this significant event that brings together so many coaches who don’t just care about wins and losses, but about making a tremendous difference in the lives of people affected by cancer,” said Kelby Krabbenhoft , president and CEO of Sanford Health. “Coaches vs. Cancer has a special meaning to Sanford Health, and we have the utmost respect for the work Lon and the staff have done.”

August’s Las Vegas Classic will mark the fourth consecutive year Sanford Health will be the event’s presenting sponsor. It will be the second year of a $2.5 million contribution to the American Cancer Society (over five years) it announced in 2018 to continue to present the event.
“Sanford Health’s commitment to the fight against cancer, to Coaches vs. Cancer and to this event has been a game-changer,” Kruger said.

Every year Sanford Health treats more than 25,000 cancer patients and provides more than 110,000 mammograms.

“We must remember that cancer hasn’t taken a timeout during the pandemic,” said Krabbenhoft. “We urge people to continue to schedule preventative appointments so we can catch cancer in the early stages and help them lead healthy lives with their families.”

Sanford Health , one of the largest health systems in the United States, is dedicated to the integrated delivery of health care, genomic medicine, senior care and services, global clinics, research and affordable insurance. Headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the organization includes 44 hospitals, 1,400 physicians and more than 200 Good Samaritan Society senior care locations in 26 states and nine countries. Nearly $1 billion in gifts from philanthropist Denny Sanford have transformed how Sanford Health improves the human condition. For information, visit sanfordhealth.org or Sanford Health News .

"Hole Hero" program seeking new supporters in 2020
Program underwrites golf, honors loved ones
The popular "Hole Hero" program will return for the 2020 Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health and organizers are looking for new supporters.

The program allows participants to honor a loved one who has passed away from cancer, is being treated for cancer or is a survivor. While helping organizers to offset the golf provided to players during the event, the program allows underwriters to celebrate those in their lives impacted by cancer.
"Hole Hero" sponsorships are $5,000 and will include signage on the course, exposure in e-newsletters and special recognition during the night events at MGM Grand . Underwriters - who are also golfing in the event - will receive an additional free round of golf for four at either Southern Highlands Golf Club or DragonRidge Country Club in the Las Vegas valley. If you or someone you know is interested in more information about the program or wants to renew from last year, please contact Lon Kruger at [email protected] or D.J. Allen at [email protected] or (702) 339-0991.

Shon Hansen (pictured far left with his team in 2019) is excited to return to Las Vegas for his third Classic this August.
“It’s a pleasure to be a part of the CvC Las Vegas event. As a K-State graduate, born and raised in Manhattan, I’ve seen many of the attending coaches perform their craft here at KSU, all the way back to Lon Kruger’s playing days as a Wildcat. I’m happy to support coach Lon Kruger, coach Bruce Weber and former Kansas State baseball coach Mike Clark and his personal fight that he’s winning against Cancer!” -Shon Hansen
