American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic 2024 E-Update

Dec. 2023 │Issue No. 2

You are a part of the LV Classic story

The vision of then-UNLV basketball coach Lon Kruger 17 years ago was to use the amazing backdrop of Las Vegas to support Coaches vs. Cancer while creating an iconic event in one of the most iconic cities in the world. But nearly 20 years ago, some people questioned whether Las Vegas should even host such an event tied to college athletics.

Today, Las Vegas has become the epicenter of sports - Super Bowl, F1, Final Four, Stanley Cup & WNBA champs, National Finals Rodeo, etc. - with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell raving about the city in early December.

Your role in supporting the Las Vegas Classic has played a part in that story. Thank you for supporting Coaches vs. Cancer - and thank you for being a fan of Las Vegas. Let’s keep writing this story together!

May 19-21, 2024 event one of largest of kind in nation

This year will mark the 17th year of the Coaches vs. Cancer Las Vegas Golf Classic presented by Sanford Health - and the event keeps growing to support the American Cancer Society. Make plans today to secure your foursome in the May 19-21, 2024 event hosted at Park MGM. Golf will be played at four of the top courses in the Southwest - Shadow Creek, Southern Highlands, Cascata and TPC Summerlin - as we team to once again raise over $1 million to donate to ACS.

Foursomes are $20,000 and include hotel accommodations, golf, parties and meals. To RSVP, contact Lon Kruger at lonkruger12@gmail.com or (405) 401-8326. Spots are limited.

NAME THAT COACH

Answer: Colorado head coach Tad Boyle. In his 14th year as head coach of the men's basketball program, he holds a record of 272-172 (.613). He is Colorado's all-time leader in men's basketball coaching wins and second in win percentage.

Entering his 18th overall season as a collegiate head coach, Boyle has won 58 percent of his games with a record of 328-238. Boyle owns nine of Colorado’s 13 all-time seasons of 20-plus wins, including all five of the Buffaloes’ top single-season win totals. He has guided Colorado to 11 postseason appearances in 12 possible seasons; with no postseason in 2020 due to Covid. Included in that span is a school-record seven-straight appearances from 2011 to 2017. Prior to that seven-year run, no Colorado team had participated in the postseason more than two consecutive years.
