Our Lady of the Elms

Frances Fisher Taite: A Lifelong Commitment to Service and Community

Frances was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to helping others, through her personal life, work, and volunteer work. She worked in many fields related to social welfare and she was always willing to help others.


After graduating from the Elms in the eighth grade she went on to attend Penn Hill Preparatory School in Pennsylvania. She returned to Akron and became a member of the Elms Alumnae Association and volunteered with the Author! Author! program.


She continued to volunteer at the Elms long after her daughters graduated from the Elms. In addition to her work at the Elms, Frances was a member of the Portage/Summit and the George Washington Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Women’s College Club. 


Frances was always willing to help others! Congratulations Frances!

Stephanie Whims: A Dedicated Elms Parent and Champion for Women’s Education

Stephanie Whims, parent of Jillian ’05 and Chelsea ‘10

Stephanie was a very active parent while her daughters, Jillian Whims Olsen (class of 2005) and Chelsea Whims (2010), were at the Elms. Stephanie volunteered at all events, ensuring her daughters always had the best. 


Today, she sits on multiple boards of organizations dedicated to promoting history, patriotism, and women. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, and United States Daughters of 1812- additionally, she holds leadership positions in each of these organizations. She continues to promote education, specifically to help young women. She helps young women get scholarship opportunities from the organizations she works with. She attends the Akron Naturalization Ceremony to support new citizens.


Stephanie and her husband, Tom, won the Elms Parent of the Year Award in 2010. Congratulations Stephanie!
