Intro to Mental Health Court - Lunch and 1 Hour of CLE Credit!
The mission of Fayette Mental Health Court (FMHC) is to protect public safety and reduce the recidivism rate of offenders with a diagnosed mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder by increasing their wellness. Using an integrated approach involving court supervision, mental health treatment services, education, employment, and personal accountability, FMHC seeks positive and long-lasting life changes. This presentation will provide an overview of the creation of the Fayette Mental Health Court and explain how this diversion court yields an extremely high success rate while modeling therapeutic jurisprudence using best practices. We will explain the program, requirements, eligibility, and the referral process, as well as possible outcomes and the legal implications of each, including expungement and probation satisfaction. Additionally, the presentation will highlight emergency detentions, involuntary hospitalizations, and restoration orders, and their relevance to the court. We will touch briefly on state-wide expansion efforts and how one could bring this model to their community.

Virtual Criminal Expungement CLE-
KBA Young Lawyers Division & Legal Aid of the Bluegrass
On April 7th, the KBA Young Lawyers Division and Legal Aid of the Bluegrass are presenting “Criminal Expungement in Kentucky,” a free virtual Legal Aid University session that teaches attorneys what they need to know to effectively assist a Kentuckian seeking a criminal record expungement. The training will provide an overview of the expungement process, what can and cannot be expunged, what to expect at the hearing and the effects of an expungement.

Please join us and learn about the practical and legal obstacles faced by low-income people with a criminal record. All attorneys are invited to attend – no previous experience is required.

Volunteers will be provided with sample petitions and a roadmap for the life cycle of an expungement case. Immediate volunteer opportunities are available.
