  • Lucy School is now offering Spanish with Ms. Clare! Beginning October 24th, Ms.Clare will teach Spanish to beginners and advanced students alike with fun indoor and outdoor activities!

Yoga with Ms. Chris (PreK4-3rd Grade)

Taught by Ms . Chris (who is also a certified children's yoga instructor), the class will e ncourage the mind/body connection through yoga play. We will build focus, strength, flexibility, and ba lance through age appropriate yoga postures, imaginative games,  creative movement and yoga s tories. Our classes will conclude with time devoted to quieting the mind and body  through breathing  and guided relaxation

Audition Preparation Intensive with Ms. Christine
6th-8th grade (6 student max enrollment) 

Designed to provide both vocal and theatre students with audition technique and repertoire, the Audition Preparation Intensive class is a group class for ambitious middle school performers. The class is designed as a singing and acting combo class particularly for students in 8 th  grade who are planning to audition for a performing arts high school, and for students in 6 th  and 7 th  grade who are interested in learning more about the auditioning process. **Auditions for performing arts high schools begin in January.** 
Over eight weeks, students will develop an audition book complete with two contrasting songs, and/or two contrasting monologues. Students will further develop their understanding of song interpretation and character development. In addition to solo work, students will hone their group audition and rehearsal etiquette and learn the skills to present themselves as professionals. Audition repertoire will be catered to each student's auditioning school requirements. 

Classes will meet the following 8 Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm:

November 7, 14, 28

Cost: $150 (includes individual music, monologues, audition binders, audition repertoire catered to each school and one final half hour individual audition preparation opportunity TBD for each student) 

Voice Lessons  with Ms. Christine 
5th-8th Grade (3 student max enrollment)

Private voice lessons are taught with care for the developing voice. Students focus on resonance, breath control, intonation, and development of high and low registers. Lessons prepare the vocal student to perform appropriate repertoire ranging from the classical to Broadway styles while allowing the student to discover his/her voice. Individualized lessons help the student to learn how to sing properly in order to prevent damage to the vocal cords, and to maximize the singer's vocal performance. Each private singing lesson will be comprised of both technique as well as application to a song in order to prepare the student for performance/audition if desired. 
All levels welcome. No audition required. Individual songs can be suggested and studied by student with teacher approval. 
There are currently 3 private voice lesson times available:   
Tuesday 3:30-4:00pm; 
Tuesday 4:00-4:30pm 
Wednesday 4:30-5:00pm 

Classes will meet the following 4 weeks:

Improv with Ms. Jennifer 
3rd-5th Grade

Theatre Improvisation is a great way to loosen up, think quickly and work collaboratively. Through short improv games and scenes you will also sharpen your wit as you learn how to listen and react to your fellow actors. Best of all you do not need any special props or costumes - just your imagination and the courage to step outside of yourself!  Previous experience not required!

Improv with Mr. Denny Grizzle (Lucy School Parent and  Professional  Actor)
6th-8th Grade

Improv will help you grow in whatever you decide to do in life. It will help you think, create, innovate, cooperate and respond in new and exciting ways. These are skills that you can take to every aspect of life. In this class we will work on the craft of improvisation through playing improv games, doing scenes and exercises and taking direction. You will be invited to look at different choices you can make and why to make them. You will learn to trust your intuition and instincts and get "out of your mind" to inspire your own creative engine.

Spanish with Ms. Clare (1st-4th Grade)

Join Ms. Clare this fall to learn Spanish while singing, playing games, eating snacks, and maybe a treasure hunt or a craft. This immersive class can accommodate absolute beginners or children with prior experience. Snack is included as well as plenty of outdoor time (weather permitting).

Wednesdays (10/24-12/19) 3:30-4:30 pm **NO CLASS 10/31 & 11/21**

American Sign Language with Mr. Ken
(2nd-8th Grade) 

Students will start by learning to finger spell the alphabet and their names. 
They will also learn signs for everyday vocabulary (food, animals, nature,  etc.) and  to communicate!   Taught by Ken Thigpen, native ASL teacher and Lucy School parent.  Please send an afternoon snack with your child.

(for Adults)

Chess Club with the Silver Knights (K-8th Grade)

Chess club is taught by experienced Silver Knights Chess players and educators using a curriculum developed by National Masters. Each weekly session is a mix of learning and play. Playing chess is a great way to develop a child's critical thinking skills, sportsmanship, and patience - all while having fun! Chess will be held at Lucy School on Tuesdays in the fall.  More information and registration is available by
