Here comes October—the month of cozy sweaters, tiny pumpkin hats, and our very own Hushabye “boo crew” of world-changers. As the nights get crisp and the candy-corn debates heat up, our nursery stays warm with lullabies, kindness, and families finding their footing. This issue is filled with sweet updates, a few treats, and zero tricks—just real progress for babies and parents. Thanks for walking with us as we turn spooky season into a season of comfort, care, and second chances.

| There are only a few tickets left, so don't wait. It isn't just a gala. It's a celebration of the tiny lives we hold close every day at Hushabye Nursery. With your help, our babies born withdrawing from opioids are thriving in our community. We promise to inspire and inform you. You'll be so glad to be a part of the first chapter of so many lives. | | |
Every family has a unique story, and the Mason family's is no different.
They first learned about Hushabye Nursery through a nurse at Arrowhead Hospital where they met their adopted daughter, Maxine. The nurse said, “Hushabye Nursery knows exactly how to handle a baby with these issues—and they’ll do a better job than we will.”
At first, the family was confused—why would a hospital with trained staff point them elsewhere? But nurse after nurse echoed the same guidance: “Get her to Hushabye.” Trusting that collective confidence, they transferred to Hushabye.
From the moment they arrived, the Mason family noticed a remarkable change. Max, who had been in pain, shaking, and crying, calmed almost instantly when Nurse Carol held her close. The redness faded from her cheeks, her cries softened, and peace filled the room.
What the family expected to be a place of treatment quickly revealed itself to be something much deeper—a true sanctuary. Not only was it a sanctuary for babies in need, but it was also a place of safety, compassion, and healing for mothers and parents navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Maxine's dad was amazed. "I had no idea how to change a diaper, swaddle her, or even stay calm when she cried in pain. But all these amazing people there gave me the guidance that I now use daily. I will be forever grateful to Hushabye for training me to be the Dad I always dreamed of being."
Through their experience at Hushabye, the Masons discovered something important about themselves: the power of grace in times of stress. They learned that even when life feels overwhelming, it is possible to find compassion—for others and for themselves. They were deeply moved by the devotion and nonjudgmental care they saw extended to every family who walked through the doors, no matter their circumstances.
As they look to the future, the Masons hope to pass this lesson on to their daughter. They want Max to understand the importance of meeting life’s challenges with compassion, rather than resentment; to seek out grace as a means to solve problems, rather than dwelling in anger. For them, one word captures what Hushabye Nursery represents: Grace.
At Hushabye Nursery, we are honored to walk alongside families like the Masons. Their journey is a reminder that healing happens not only in the care we provide to babies, but also in the love, strength, and resilience that grows within families. Together, we create a place of grace, compassion, and hope.

Did you know that not only do we care for mothers and babies, but we also offer support groups to families after they return home?
At Hushabye Nursery, the care doesn’t end when a baby leaves our nursery—it’s only the beginning. After discharge, parents are invited into a circle of ongoing support designed to nurture healing, stability, and hope. Through our Outpatient Program, families receive one-on-one case management, connection to recovery and parenting resources, and access to mental health and peer support groups.
Many of our parents continue to meet with Hushabye nurses, case managers, and peer mentors who understand their journey and walk beside them as they build safe, loving homes. From help finding housing or childcare to guidance on medication-assisted treatment and bonding activities, every service is grounded in compassion and respect.
Because when a family leaves Hushabye, they don’t leave alone—they leave with a community that believes in them.
Now you know.
