How Ottawa Businesses and Citizens Can Support Ukraine

Like many Canadians, the Ottawa Board of Trade (OBOT) expresses our solidarity with the Ukrainian people and Ukrainian business community during these tragic times for their country. OBOT stands with Ukraine and we continue to look for ways to support. Ottawa businesses and citizens that would like to support Ukraine can find a list of resources on our website.

Relief Measures for Businesses Impacted by the Occupation

  • 2022 Convoy Occupation Property Tax Deferral Program: In recognition of the hardship business owners have faced during the convoy occupation of downtown Ottawa, City Council approved a 2022 Convoy Occupation Property Tax Deferral Program for retail and commercial property owners in the impacted areas. The property tax deferral allows eligible properties to defer their interim tax bill due on March 17, 2022, and final bill taxes due on June 16, 2022, to September 15, 2022. The deferral is retroactive to March 17, 2022, the 2022 interim tax bill due date.

  • Downtown Ottawa Business Relief Fund: Eligible businesses can apply for $1,000 to $15,000 to manage operational costs incurred during the blockade that are not covered by other government programs. IMPORTANT: Funds will be distributed to eligible businesses on a first-come, first-serve basis until the funds are exhausted. Do not delay as funds are limited. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2022

The Workforce Confidence Initiative launched in partnership with Ottawa Tourism is a comprehensive strategy designed to restore employee confidence in the hardest hit sectors in the National Capital Region, such as the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as the business districts that support them. Businesses most impacted by the pandemic and facing labour shortages, now have tools to ensure employees feel safe, supported, and confident to return to work.

The information portal makes it easy for employers to access tools, resources, and programs, like the POST Promise, Rapid Testing and workshops hosted by experienced facilitators on building employee confidence.
