Dive Site Spotlight: Naeco

The wreck of the Naeco is a 428 foot long tanker that is spread out over two miles from the bow to the stern, in 140 feet of water. The stern is the largest at 130 feet in length and is lying upright on its keel. The steering quadrant, the engines, and the boilers are separated by a deck wall from the tank sections. Forward of this wall, the stern flattens out into a debris field. The pilot house is a separate distant flat debris field and the bow is also a separate distant debris field. The bow is lying flat and collapsed on its starboard side. The port anchor is visible, still sitting in the hawse pipe. On March 23, 1942, the U-124 took aim and fired a single torpedo into the starboard side of the Naeco, just forward of the amidships.
