CAWP’s 2023 Ready to Run® campaign training program kicks off this Friday! Register today to join our first in-person campaign training event since 2019, happening March 17th and 18th in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Whether you’re currently preparing your run for office or just seeking strategies to become more politically active, Ready to Run® has workshops, panels, and programs that are tailor-made for you. The 2023 program includes:

The Ready to Run® Diversity Initiative, aimed at increasing the diversity of women serving in office in New Jersey, features a keynote address from New Jersey state Senator and Majority Caucus Chair Nellie Pou, as well as three breakout sessions: ELLA Wins (Elections & Leadership Latina Academy); Rising Stars: Educating Asian American Women for Politics; and Run Sister Run: Empowering Black Women for Public Office.

Are you a graduate student working on a dissertation related to gender and American politics? CAWP is awarding up to four Ruth B. Mandel Dissertation Research Awards. These $2,000 awards will support dissertation research on women, gender, and U.S. politics. Eligible recipients include advanced doctoral students from any relevant discipline at U.S.-based institutions who have successfully defended their dissertation proposal. We encourage applications from scholars who are traditionally underrepresented in the academy and welcome applications for research that analyzes gender in addition to or in conjunction with other categories such as race/ethnicity, class, immigration status, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

The application deadline for our Susan N. Wilson New Leadership® New Jersey 2023 cohort has been extended until April 3, 2023. Our flagship NEW Leadership® program will take place June 8-13th at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This non-partisan, six-day residential program will give students the opportunity to meet women leaders, learn about women’s participation in American politics, and develop and practice leadership skills through panel discussions, workshops, and projects.

On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, CAWP Director Debbie Walsh will moderate a panel for the Institute for Women’s Leadership’s Laurie Chair Symposium: Activism for Reproductive and Health Justice. This one-day symposium will offer students, faculty, staff, and the wider community an opportunity to learn about the implications and consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the ways scholars, activists, and practitioners are responding and organizing. Walsh will moderate the panel “Post Roe: Legal Challenges, Political Strategies, Activism for Justice,” featuring Kimberly Mutcherson, Kitty Kolbert, and Guadalupe Rodriguez. New from Michigan University Press’ CAWP Series in Gender and American Politics comes Gendered Pluralism by Belinda Robnett (UC Santa Barbara) and Katherine Tate (Brown University). This book explores structural and political intersectionalities and “takes a broader approach to understanding the constellation of factors that drive gender and racial differences on an array of public policy issues.” It examines the differences of opinion between and among different gender and racial groups while looking at what drives those differences.
