As we celebrate our nation's independence, we're also kicking off the countdown to America's 250th Anniversary.

Scouting America is proud to partner with America250 to inspire Scouts across the country to commemorate this historic milestone. Through learning about our nation's history, participating in community service projects, and developing leadership skills, Scouts are helping shape the next chapter of America's story.

Congratulations to Jesse Salazar on making history with Post 640 Montebello School Police as the program's first-ever Explorer promoted to the rank of Captain!

Since joining the Explorer Program in December 2023 and graduating from the Explorer Academy in June 2024, Jesse has exemplified dedication, professionalism, and exceptional leadership. Whether supporting program operations or mentoring fellow Explorers, he has consistently gone above and beyond, setting the standard for those who follow.

As Jesse prepares to age out of the program this September, this promotion serves as a fitting recognition of the hard work, commitment, and positive impact he has made throughout his time with Post 640. Congratulations, Captain Salazar, on this outstanding achievement, and best wishes as you begin your next chapter!

Unlock a Summer of Adventure with a Free California Historian Passport!

Looking for an exciting and educational adventure this summer? California Scouts and families can explore the rich history of the Golden State with a special opportunity from California State Historic Parks!

In honor of Juneteenth and in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California residents can claim a FREE Historian Passport, a pass that normally costs $50. The passport provides free admission for up to four people at more than 30 participating California State Parks and museums.

Available to claim June 16 – July 6

From historic missions and pioneer settlements to gold rush landmarks and coastal forts, these sites offer incredible opportunities for Scouts to explore history, practice outdoor skills, and discover the stories that helped shape our nation.

Grow 10 in June and Get Your $100 National Charter Fee Covered

Summer is one of the best times to showcase the excitement of Scouting. While other organizations slow down, Scouts are exploring the outdoors, attending camp, serving their communities, and creating unforgettable memories.

Keep your unit active, visible, and growing by inviting new families to join the adventure.

Recruit 10 new Scouts or Explorers between June 4 and July 4, and Greater LA Scouting will cover your unit's $100 National Charter Fee.

Don't go dark. Grow your unit. Grow Scouting.

Eligibility Requirements

Any Pack, Troop, Crew, or Post in good standing that recruits 10 or more NEW youth members during the campaign period qualifies.

To be counted toward the challenge:

Youth must be fully registered between June 4 and July 4.
All registrations must be verified by your District Representative.
Youth must be brand new to the Scouting program.
Units must be in good standing.

Important Notes

Transfers from another unit do not count.
Former Scouts rejoining the program do not count.
Adult registrations do not count.
Only newly registered youth who are verified through official membership records will be counted toward the total.

This challenge is about more than reaching a number. It's about introducing more young people to the life-changing experiences Scouting provides while strengthening units across Greater Los Angeles.
