Safe & Happy Holidays
Holidays are certainly looking different this year. This does not mean that you cannot celebrate! Here are a few tips to have a safe & healthy holiday season.

  • Host a Virtual Celebration: Schedule a time to have a virtual meal with your family or friends or host a virtual dance party or ugly sweater contest!
  • Host a Virtual Gift Exchange or Activity: Set a time to open presents virtually or make holiday crafts or arts together. Bake or decorate cookies.
  • Decorate for the season: Set up a holiday or winter scene indoors. Take pictures of the family. Drive or walk (make sure to mask up!) around the neighborhood or local areas for the display of lights.
  • Mail or Contactless Drop off: Drop off or mail baked goods, greeting cards, or gifts. Make sure to leave them at the front door or porch when delivering in person.
  • Volunteer online: A lot of charities are looking for volunteers this holiday season. Look for opportunities where you can volunteer online or host an online event.
  • Virtual Religious Service: Find out if your place of worship offers a virtual service.

What is Ed100?
As parents of school-age children, we are all highly vested in the success of students and our schools. But how much do you actually know about our state educational system? Ed100 is a great resource to help you build a knowledge base of the issues relating to students, teachers, finances, and measurements of success in our schools.

Ed100 is a free, self-paced online course consisting of simple lessons that are short and to-the-point. Each lesson takes only about 5 minutes to complete. Be awarded for doing your "homework"! For each lesson you complete, you earn a raffle ticket for a chance to win a cash contribution to our PTSA!

Visit the site www.ED100.org and register under Diablo Vista Middle School today!
Reflections Showcase is Now Open
The Reflections Virtual Showcase is now live! We invite all of the DVMS community to view our showcase on the PTSA website under Reflections 2020

Visit our virtual gallery featuring the artistry of our very own DVMS students. Works include dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. The creativity and enthusiasm demonstrated in these original pieces portray the personal meaning and reflection of each artist on this year's theme, which is "I Matter Because..."

For the protection of our artists, only DVMS families with Schoolloop logins are allowed access to the Showcase. If you have any questions, please contact the Reflections Chair at dvmsptsareflections@gmail.com.

Teacher Thank You Update
Thanks to everyone who donated cash, gift cards, and wrote special notes to the staff. Because of your generosity, each staff member will receive a handwritten note and $30 in gift cards. The following note was included with each card. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

PTSA Hospitality Committee
Dear DVMS VIP,

Every year during the holidays the PTSA hosts a celebration with baked goods and treats donated by students and their families. DVMS families love to participate in this event because it gives them a chance to show their appreciation and spread some holiday cheer. This year, given all of the challenges created by the pandemic, it’s even more important for you to understand how much you are appreciated by your DVMS students and their families.

The PTSA reached out and asked families to donate a small token in the form of a $10 gift card and a handwritten note that would be sent to an unknown DVMS staff member. The response was OVERWHELMING! The end result of this effort is what you are receiving today. The gift cards are from various retailers and the note may be signed by a family or may have no signature at all but the sentiment is the same, gratitude. There were many, many families who made this happen and did so because they are grateful for your hard work and dedication to the education of our children.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and wish you all the best for a very HAPPY and HEALTHY New Year!

Warm wishes and many thanks from the DVMS PTSA
Sister School Adopt-A-Family Update
Thanks to our generous DVMS community, our sign up was filled in just two days! For those who still wanted a chance to contribute, we have added a new slot for donating gift cards to the Helms Middle School Health and Wellness Program.

This program consists of a social worker, mentors, and outreach specialists who often encounter families in need of immediate help. They conduct home-visits when a family is in crisis and it would be great to be able to provide gift cards to the parents to help them purchase basic supplies that they may urgently need.

Please see the original sign-up for details on this additional opportunity to support our sister school.

Thank you to the PTSA Sister School Committee and Leadership Class for organizing!
'Quarantine & Read' Book Fair Update
Thank you to all families who supported our book fair! We raised over $600. If you weren’t able to support the library through the book fair, you can still make a donation to the library fund.

We hope the wish lists were helpful. Congratulations to the three winners of our “Quarantine and Read” swag bags! Winners will be directly contacted by Ms. Dowd.

  • Melanie V. (grade 8)
  • Lucas H. (grade 6)
  • Maya M. (grade 6)

We hope you have a safe and fun holiday break!

Supporting Our LGBTQ+ Community
A Note From SRVCPTA’s Inclusion and Diversity Chair, Krista Glaser

I recently spoke at a local PFLAG meeting about my experiences coming out and living as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in our SRVUSD. During a time when LGBTQ+ students may be separated from their support systems and courts are deciding if our families will—or will not—continue to be recognized, organizations like PFLAG are needed more than ever. We are proud to partner with them and offer them this space to share:

PFLAG's vision is to create a world where difference is celebrated, and all people are valued inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Our mission of support, education, and advocacy guides our work on this important goal. PFLAG Danville supports this mission by:

  • Running on-going support groups for family and friends of LGBTQ+ individuals and providing referrals to resources. Family support and acceptance are critical for the health of our LGBTQ+ children!
  • Providing education to the community on the issues that are important to our LGBTQ+ children
  • Advocating for inclusive policies and laws.

We are currently running our monthly support meetings online to give you the support you need during this most challenging time. Whether you are:

  • A parent or family member on a journey supporting an LGBTQ+ loved one;
  • A parent or family member who suspects someone you love is LGBTQ+ and aren't sure how to approach the subject, or if you should;
  • An LGBTQ+ adult (18+) who is newly-or not yet-out to your family;
  • A teacher, counselor, or school administrator providing online instruction and looking to help support LGBTQ+ students who are out at school but not at home; or
  • An adult (18+) friend or ally looking to provide support as you shelter in place,

PFLAG Danville-San Ramon Valley has you covered.
