Last Hooorah 2022: 3/15 - 3/17

On the street corner where we catch our bus, there usually is a street performer. This guy is one of the best.

San Pancho 2022: Tuesday, March 15

The second best beach in Riveria Nayarit is at San Pancho, aka, San Fransisco. Today is our final full-day together, so San Pancho it is.

The bus ride on the Compostela bus takes about 50 minutes. Compostela goes all the way into Sayulita and has a short layover there. On the return, we usually take the plusher Pacifico bus. It only takes 30 minutes.

Anyway, we landed at San Pancho around noon and headed straight for the beach. We rented an umbrella and chaise lounges for the day. The day was spectacular, the beach was clean and delightful, and the surf was perfect.

We bought a bucket full of Pacificos and ice. Wanda got her Margarita. We all played in the surf, letting the waves pound us unmercifully. This will be our last full day together, as I have a bunch of dentist appointments tomorrow and Mo and Grace leave on Thursday.

Entering San Pancho’s beach.

Staking out our territory.

Ahhhh, Pacificos!

The waves were decent today.

Mother and daughter tatoos. When Grace was just an infant, Mo would walk her around holding her while singing, “You are my sunshine.” It was Grace’s idea to do the matching tatoos. Mo proclaimed, “how could I say no to such a meaningful request?”

Drying off between swims.

On our way back to the highway to catch the bus, we stopped off for supper at Barracuda's. This is our fifth visit to San Pancho. Each time we try out a new restaurant. Each has been outstanding and we have about 25 more to try.

Downtown San Pancho is a pleasant laid-back village with lots of sidewalk cafes and shops.

We settled in at Barracuda’s. As the name implies, it is mostly a seafood restaurant. The shrimp “anything” and “everything” was excellent.

Mission Accomplished 2022: Wednesday, March 16

We started the morning off with another spectacular breakfast at Paninos located in the Playfulness strip mall just a couple blocks away from our house. While waiting for our order, Paninos is slow, Mo and Grace got their “official” antigen COVID test done for tomorrow’s flight at a clinic just a couple of shops down from Paninos. Earlier in the morning, Mo and Grace took a home COVID test. It was negative, so they pretty much knew that this “official” test would clear them for take-off. The “official” test was $30 US each and both came back negative as expected.

Wanda and I showed Mo and Grace all the best spots around Bucerias before setting them up on Playa Bucerias. Wanda and I left for my marathon dentist appointment.

Just before sitting down in the dreaded chair, I mentioned that my tooth with the temporary crown is now very sensitive to hot and cold. That upset the apple cart. They wouldn’t be able to install my more permanent crown today. I would need a root canal. I have to complete the root canal before my bone graft surgery. Everything was rescheduled and I was sent home with nothing done.

On a brighter note, Dentoamerica gave me another 3600 pesos ($180 US) discount on my bill. I left with a nice credit balance.

Mo and Grace spent the whole day at the beach. Grace was pretty red, but it should turn a nice golden brown in a day or so. After a shower and a little bit of a visit, both zonked out at 8 pm. We wore them out - mission accomplished.

Bon Voyage 2022: Thursday, March 17

Where did that week go? It was truly sad seeing our guests pack up this morning. Wanda and I rode the bus with them to the airport. Boarding the plane went without a hitch.

Heading down the street towards the bus stop with bags in tow. (And yes, I did help Grace with her bag after taking this photo. I swear she had a pair of lead bricks packed away.)

Masking up at the bus stop. Mexicans still nearly universally wear masks on public transportation and in stores.

Now, where is my passport?

On the bus ride back to Bucerias we were entertained by this guy. It is the second time we caught is “bus act”. I love his finger-picking style. He mixes double-note harmony phrases in between alternating bass notes and chords. His timing is odd, but dead nuts on. Wanda and I both tipped him.

We soothed the loss of our visitors with some comfort food at Paninos.
