Last Mile Federal Funding Account

New Application Round Coming Soon

California Public Utilities Commission Broadband List Subscribers,

This is an informational update regarding the status and next steps on the Federal Funding Account.

As of February 20, 2025, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has awarded $1.1 billion in Federal Funding Account funding for 113 projects across 52 counties. These projects will deploy reliable wireline broadband infrastructure to unserved communities across the state and benefit 2 million Californians. We will refer to these awards as Round 1.

Our goal is to fund projects in every county in the state with Federal Funding Account appropriated funds to date. Six counties remain: Calaveras, Contra Costa, Inyo, Monterey, Orange, and Trinity.

Round 2 is coming soon! The CPUC will hold an expedited second Federal Funding Account grant solicitation focused specifically on the remaining six counties. We will refer to these awards as Round 2. The application process will begin in March 2025. This round will be for eligible unserved locations in the six remaining counties, listed below, in which no Federal Funding Account grants were awarded in Round 1:

  • Calaveras County
  • Contra Costa County
  • Inyo County
  • Monterey County
  • Orange County
  • Trinity County

The CPUC requests applications from entities that applied within these counties in Round 1 as well as first-time applications for the specified counties.

Data on eligible unserved locations in these six counties and additional information on Round 2 will be made available in future publications and on the last mile Federal Funding Account main page.
