2020 Blackpool Dance Festival and Queen Mary 2 Transatlantic Dance Cruise 

 

In our opinion, BLACKPOOL DANCE FESTIVAL is the MOST prestigious dance competition in the world, even better attended than the world championships.  Thousands of dancers arrive before Memorial Weekend to compete in dozens of events.  Vivian likes to spend her mornings and breaks shopping (best shopping for dancers she has even seen), afternoons dancing the Historic Blackpool Tower Ballroom and her evenings watching the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals of the the big events.  The Festival takes over Blackpool, England for nine days, from the Thursday before Memorial Day to the Friday after. 

Start your vacation with a 7-day Transatlantic on the only ocean-liner left, Cunard's Queen Mary 2.  Enjoy dancing in the most beautiful ballroom, with the largest wooden dance floor at sea, to both live and taped music every evening.  Enjoy daily dance lessons with top professional teachers.  Cunard usually has six dance hosts (five males, one female) available for anyone who needs a partner in the evening or for lessons during the day.  It's easily the best way to travel to England, dressing up and dancing every night. 

Upon arriving in Southampton, a bus, car or train can take you to Blackpool with many Historic places to visit along the way, including London, Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor Castle. 

Once in Blackpool, you have several choices, here are two of them:

1)You can stay a few days, and on Saturday enjoy the very popular International Team Match which will showcase the best dancers in the world.  On Sunday, there is an optional dinner for the North American competitors, their sponsors and their guests.  Vivian is usually a sponsor.  Every afternoon, with few exceptions,  the Historic Blackpool Tower Ballroom is open for social dancing with continuous live music from 10am-6pm, with afternoon beverages and snacks available for a fee.  Tickets for the ballroom are about $11(us) for eight hours of social dancing.  Discount tickets may be available at the tourist information center. 

If you limit your stay to four days in England, you can sail back to New York on Queen Mary 2, on May 24, 2020, enjoying dancing or 101 other things to do on the 7-day transatlantic. 

2) Optionally, you can stay for the full 9-days of the Festival, with the biggest competitive dance events being held on May 26-29, 2020 and fly home from Manchester or surrounding European cities on May 30th or later.
