IRS Hired Collection Agency

The IRS has made a change to the way they contact people who owe back taxes - and it might be confusing.

For years the IRS has always said that they don't call people. However, they recently started using several private collection agencies who will call taxpayers who owe money. The IRS has stated that they will send written notice to the taxpayer explaining that the account is being transferred to a private collection agency.

The most important thing to remember is that, unlike scammers, these private collection agencies WILL NOT ASK FOR PAYMENT ON A PREPAID DEBIT CARD. Taxpayers will be informed about electronic options on IRS.gov.

So, as always, don't be intimidated by a scammer who claims to be from the IRS and says you must make immediate payment or face arrest, deportation, etc. If you have even the slightest concern, before paying anything, please talk to someone you trust for advice - including us. If you call the IRS, look-up the number yourself. Don't call any number provided by the caller. Here's more - https://goo.gl/VngU06
