Immigration Policy: Choices and Implications for New Hampshire
February 12, 8 – 9 a.m.
Online
How might the Trump administration's actions on immigration affect New Hampshire? Our February speaker is Dr. Julia Gelatt, Associate Director of the U.S. Immigration Policy Program at the Migration Policy Institute. Dr. Gelatt will provide a framework for understanding the U.S. immigration system, including which responsibilities fall to the federal government and which roles state and municipalities can play. She will highlight the policy choices states have on immigration topics—related to immigration enforcement, public benefits, inclusion of immigrants in the workforce, and other arenas—and describe how New Hampshire’s policies compare to those of other states. Finally, she will give an overview of some of the Trump administration's recent executive orders and subsequent policy changes and analyze their implications for New Hampshire agencies, service providers, and communities.

When you think about your favorite products, where the raw ingredients come from and how they are processed matters most. Learn how consumer product companies can engage with the people and places in their supply chains to restore and regenerate, rather than degrade. And discuss how you as consumers can vote with your dollar to influence more companies on this journey.

| | Washington, DC, Colloquium Week | | A professional master’s program is about more than just theory and lectures. Carsey's DC Colloquium provides an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the heart of American policymaking. At this year's Colloquium from January 12-17, Carsey Director Stephen Bird and students met with national policymakers, nonprofit leaders, and public administrators in a whirlwind of over 20 meetings. A highlight of the week was touring the White House and sitting down with former National Security Advisor and Carsey Senior Fellow Jake Sullivan! The Carsey gang even managed to squeeze in a visit with Carsey Advisory Board Member Dave Dixon (pictured above). | | North Country School Summit | | On January 29, NH Listens facilitated the first North Country School Summit hosted by superintendents with school board leaders and NH House and Senate representatives. The goal of the gathering was to create more connections across state and school leaders and bridge local realities and state policymaking in the North Country. | |
