Last call for entries!

It's the last call to enter the Philip Meyer Journalism Awards! The contest recognizes excellent journalism done using social science research methods. Enter by Tuesday, Nov. 18.

What do we mean by "social science research methods"? These methods might include quantitative and qualitative approaches, such as surveys conducted with randomly selected respondents, as well as descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Check out last year's winners for inspiration.

The award is named after IRE and NICAR legend Philip Meyer, known as the "father of computer-assisted reporting." Meyer, author of "Precision Journalism," pioneered the use of survey research to explore the causes of race riots in the 1960s. Learn more about his legacy.

Make a donation so we can continue training watchdog journalists

Journalism has the power to shine a light on the truth, but these days, it feels like the darkness is only spreading. At IRE, we aren’t giving up.

As the largest journalist organization based in the U.S., we see our members work day in and day out to expose injustice and hold power to account. They are the watchdogs of our communities, and they need our support.

Make a gift today! Your generous contributions directly support IRE training programs, so we can continue equipping journalists with the skills and resources they need. Every dollar counts.

'We want to make (the world) a healthier, safer, smarter place'

Why support IRE? Longtime IRE member and ESPN investigative reporter Tisha Thompson shared this message after IRE's 50th Anniversary Gala:

"Without investigative reporting, you wouldn't know what's going on in this world. ... We need all of the support we can possibly get because it really matters. It matters to every single person in the United States and across the world because we really do want to make it a healthier, safer, smarter place. And to do that, we need IRE." Open call for IRE Awards screeners

Do you love reading/watching/listening to investigative journalism? Want to see what fellow IRE members are working on? Sign up to be an IRE Awards screener.

With entries submitted across several different media platforms and categories each year, screeners help select the ones that move forward to the judging committee. You will be working as part of a larger team, with most of the time commitment from mid-January to mid-February. The deadline to sign up is Dec. 8.
